Haig Point Club - The Calibouge & The Haig Course
10 Haig Point CirHilton Head Island, SC 29928
Phone: (843)686-9202Fax: (843)686-2467
This club offers twenty-nine holes of golf. The layout is quite unique because the club's twenty-nine holes may be played in a variety of eighteen hole combinations. The club describes this unique layout as two distinct courses (although in reality they are not) known as the Calibouge and the Haig Courses. In addition, the Nine Hole Course also goes by the name "Osprey." Basically, the first seven holes on both nines of the Haig and Calibouge Courses are the same. The only difference comes when you mix and interchange the two remaining "oddball" holes. Most of the championship tees require shots of over 200 yards or better to avoid trouble. The greens are very sloping and fast. There is a marsh area that comes into play on six or seven holes. "Golf Digest" rated this 71st best out of "America's 100 Greatest Courses" for 1995-96, and 72nd best for 1997-98. They also ranked it as the 3rd "Best in State" course for 1995-96, and 4th best for 1997-98. "GOLFWEEK" selected it 91st among "America's 100 Best Modern Courses" for 1999. The Nine Hole Course is more wide open than the Eighteen Hole (Haig or Calibouge) Course. This club is an equity country club community featuring scenic seaside golf. The other tee shown for the Eighteen Hole Course is an additional men's tee.

| Haig Point is the ultimate golf experience for those not in a hurry. Strategic placement of trees require drives which work both left-to-right, as well as right-to-left. Generous, but well-protected greens, roll very true (about 9-9.5 when I played in October). Very intimidating approach shots, especially the first time you play Haig point. Outstanding collection of par threes. Osprey nine third best, but still unique experience. Play Haig Point if you get the chance, but plan on 6 to 7 hours, including boat ride from Palmetto Bay |

| outstanding course. definitely play the calibogue tees when you go. amazingly quiet thanks to the very expensive memberships. very lucky to get in as a guest. under new mgmt and very old school in terms of the way it is run. a lot of forced carries, but playing from the blue tees as a 15, i did not find it unfair at all. not to be missed if you get an invite |
