Locals say that this course is the oldest course in the area. The course is affiliated with the Hollywood Beach Hotel. It was built on fairly flat terrain, and the fairways are wide open but tree lined. There are some elevated tees, and water hazards come into play on eight holes. The large, sloping, fast greens are well protected by sand bunkers. Mark Mahannah redesigned the course in 1955.

| Hollywood Beach Golf Course is one of the oldest courses in South Florida, and like the neighborhood surrounding it, the course is showing its age. Your golfing experience at this course can change from week to week based on maintenance issues. The greens are the course’s worst feature. Many greens suffer from patches of spotty and dead grass that make putting less than enjoyable. Another problem on this course is that it does not drain well. In the Florida rains many of the fairways can become very soggy. The 90 degree rule is the norm here, and during times of heavy rain the course has even shortened par four’s to par three’s in order to avoid playing the soggy fairways. In optimum conditions the course can be great fun to play. It is a bomber’s course, with many straight away holes and wide open fairways. There are a few water hazzards, and on your drive two of the holes (4 and 5) challenge you to carry a canal that cuts across the fairway. For avid golfers who simply like to play, this course can be a “go to” place for an inexpensive round. If you are planning on playing this as part of your Florida vacation, look elsewhere until they plunk some money into the facility. |
