This is a somewhat open course, but most of the fairways are tree lined. Shot accuracy is essential because a standard cut of rough lines the fairways and borders the greens. Sand bunkers have been incorporated into the course design, and water hazards come into play on about a dozen holes, including on hole #14, a 487-yard, par 4, which requires a tee shot over two ponds to a wide landing area. The terrain is extremely hilly, so expect uneven lies. The large greens are sloping, fast, and easy to three putt. Many scenic views of the surrounding countryside can be seen from off most holes. The other tee shown is an additional men's tee.

| Castle Shannon is a great Golf Course, one of the finest layouts I have ever played in my 49 years of playing Golf. It requires a high skill level to break 80. You must stay in the fairway and keep the ball on level ground. The course plays long, much more then the 6896 the card shows. The biggest requirement is ball position on the greens. You must be below the hole or the chance of three or even four putting is quite high. Beside being a fun course, the scenery is just beautiful. The third hole called "The Gauntlet" is as pretty a hole as I have every played. From the top of the hill it looks to be 750 yards instead of 583. You will really enjoy this course and want to play again. I certainly cannot wait to play this course again. |

| The course is well kept. The greens are extremely fast, so keep your ball below the cup on aproach! Keep it in the short stuff or you will pay for it. Some unique holes that prove to be difficult time after time, such as the "Gauntlet". |
