This course has tree-lined fairways on every hole, and there is water that comes into play on six holes. The Greater Jacksonville Open was played here in the 1940's. The signature hole is #6, a 151-yard, par 3, named "Hogan's Valley" because this is the hole that Ben Hogan shot an eleven on. It has a deep faced bunker to the right and water to the left. Stanley Thompson redesigned this course in the 1930's. Golfers may walk the course on weekdays only.

| Fine old golf course, usually in decent shape, just always busy and slow. My fav in town is North hampton, here's a link to the course: http://forelinksters.com/course/golf_club_at_north_hampton_saint_augustine |

| I have been playing this course since I was 10 years old and I have never met a more fair course, challenging yet not unforgiving. Wide fairways help the high handicapper; great layout and unpretentiousness is great for everyone |

One you will always remember, Nov 11, 2004 |

| I'm from West Salem, Illinois and played this course with my brother while I was in the area on vacation a couple of years ago. The clubhouse was wonderful with history all around you. We both love older courses and immediately fell for this one. We understood that this was the course on which "the Babe" won her tournament? My son recently was promoted into the Jacksonville area which is going to give me a good excuse to go back. The feeling of being surrounded by so much golf history is almost humbling. 4 stars because you can't build this kind of character and history. If you're in the area, and don't play it, you're truly missing a unique experience. |

Here is a golf course unlike the others. No ostentatious put-ons, no glitz, no ritz. The true character of the place shines through and you almost expect to see Hogan and company on every hole. The design of the course itself is honest. It plays well and challenges all skill levels without unduly punishing either extreme. The layout flows quite well and your next tee is always close to your last green. Hyde Park's low cost ($26 per round, including cart) allows golf to be a sport for everyone, not just the neighbourhood swanks. (Too many 'modern' courses are insanely over-manicured, solely for the purpose of sending your wallet up in flames.) The greens don't run a 13 on the Stimpmeter but they're immaculately kept and true, without funhouse sculpturing. The entire place has an *authentic* feel to it and that's something that other courses just cannot buy. Hyde Park is a true time machine. Delightful. I would have given it 4 stars, but I'd not want to alienate the folks who think a course not worthwhile lest the fairways be cut with nail clippers and the greens manicured 8 hours a day, or even the hardy souls who think any course with visible fairways is a sell-out. ;) |

Wide Open Drive, Jan 25, 2004 |

| Fairly well kept course, the fairways are wide open for the most psrt, so if you lose your new Titlest, its your fault...There are a few water hazards in challengable spots. Bunkers are all easily avoidable. This is actually a challenging course, but one that wont drive you nuts with every stroke. Its also a pretty good course for those who arent, Arnold Palmer. You have to know your game, but it allows for mistakes, without costing you 3 strokes. The trees are beautiful, and the wildlife around the course adds to the experience. Its nice to find a place like this tucked among the city, and tall radio towers, which are right in the middle of the course, between holes nine and ten, which is the primary problem spot for this course. Its priced right, and a good challenge for the money. |
