This course's back nine was designed to play alongside both the Grand River and a large lake. The front nine, a Scottish-links design, features moguls in its fairways, plus well-bunkered fairways and greens. One hole is highlighted by its island green, while the following hole requires a shot from off an elevated peninsula tee box. The tree-lined fairways on the back nine are flat and easy to walk. Overall, water hazards come into play on twelve holes, including every hole on the back nine. The signature hole is #13, a 211-yard, par 3, requiring a tee shot over a lake to a green framed by mature trees.

The course is spectacular, both in scenery and in the variety of play that can be had -- from novice to expert. Tom Fasio did a great job, using natural elements beautifully. Watch out for the 4" rough! It is lush and can eat your balls so magically that they can NOT be found. Course management is excellent. Hazards are well maintained as are the fairways and greens. Most of the T-boxes are elevated and the views in the valleys include small waterfalls, hardwoods, mountain laurel and rhododendron covered hills with mountain vistas all around. The clubhouse offers wonderful sunsets and terrific food. Excellent additional amenities like a health club, tennis, practice areas. VERY nice bungalos for lease, nearby B&B, charming small town. Close to Asheville, Biltmore House, Grandfather Mountain, Greenville/Spartanburg airport, Appalachian Trail... We really love this area and this particular course.

It's a challanging course, also very fun, they also sponsor for the local high school so thats pretty cool. For as good of a golf course it is prices are reasonable.

Desert Aire is a good course for beginners to play because it is flat and doesn't offer too much in the way of hazzards to get in the way of an enjoyable round. They also have good deals for junior players.
