This is a beautiful and well-maintained course. The undulating greens are large and fast, and the fairways range from narrow to wide open. This flat course is easy to walk. This club was first founded in 1881 and has been listed by the USGA as one of the first 100 clubs established in the U.S. It was also recognized by "GOLF Magazine" in their 1995 list of "The First 100 Clubs in America." The club hosted the Senior PGA Tour's Northville Long Island Classic in 1994. "Golf Digest" rated this as the 15th "Best in State" course for 1995-96, and the 16th best for 1997-98.

| I played this course in July 2005. It was in outstanding condition. There are three sets of "mens" tees, and the course ratings from 74.1/134 to 70.4/125 are accurate descriptions of its difficulty.
The course opens gently with two relatively easy and straightfoward holes. The third hole is long and testing. The fourth is an excellent dogleg left that demands a strong and straight tee shot and an accurate second shot. The fifth is a very shot par four which doglegs left. The green is well bunkered and treacherous--especially if you hit past the hole.
The sixth is a long par 3 with water on the right that can absorb balls hit right avoiding the trees on the left.
Every hole is unique. If the course has a weakness in design it is the large # of doglegs left-#s 3,4,5,7,11,14,and 17.Only #s 8 (second shot), 15 and 18 go to the right.
That said, it is a graet layout and a real test of skill. Bring you best putting game as most greens are huge ( in the 8,000 sq. ft. range)! |
