"Almost there", Jul 17, 2006

| Hi all...Once again I come to you with a few words of encouragement from the City of Kenosha.
Played Big Oaks today ( 7-10-06 ) .. It was an overcast day, after that unbelievable dumping we'd gotten the night before... The fairways were
a bit spongy as the greens, in some spots, were as well. I think a couple unique things about this place is it has 3 / 9's for you to choose from as well as ample parking & partying space on the grounds itself... My new friend, Jose heads up a grounds crew of environmentally concious young men; whos' attention to detail will eventually make Big Oaks as visually pleasing to the eye as it is difficult to play...I opted to do the North & South courses in tandem and let me tell you my friends; it wouldn't hurt to have a cart with a gps system on it!! A meandering creek abides throughout the North side and rears it's ugly head again on the South 9 after a couple 3 holes or so. Mature trees throughout and
next to no sand to speak of... The greens are in good repair and the rye grass is almost as tall as me & in some spots; it actually curves around 1 or 2 of the tee boxes along the way.. Overall
it had the feel of course that's being lovingly
reborn..It's located right off Russel road on Greenbay Ave. just north of the WI border in Kenosha ..easy to find..a nice getaway and after your round ; make a beeline back down Russel & west to I-94 then head north to exit 142 to the Star Restaurant and tell Dave how you did out here at Big Oaks ( don't forget to tell him Bruce sent ya ) I know I'll be back with friends to do both; but for now I'll close my eyes & imagine I'm almost there... |

Below average rates, but below average conditions, Oct 02, 2005

| Pretty much what you’d expect from a sub $30 course. I would call the layout gently rolling. Tee boxes weren’t in good condition and some were not level in spots. Fairways were in decent condition, but greens were bad – more sand than grass at times (this could be due to our harsh summer this year, I may consider giving them another try sometime when weather conditions are better). Not many sand traps on the course, but the ones I noticed weren’t groomed and so were compacted like concrete. Overall it’s definitely playable as a cheap course but I wouldn’t consider it a ‘great value’ course – Its fees are consistent with its conditions. |

| Big Oaks golf course is a very quiet and peaceful course that is maintained beautifully. Big Oaks has a nice balance of sand-traps, water hazards, long/short fairways. I enjoy this course a lot and I recomend this course to anyone from beginner to pro. |
