Marshall Canyon...Good Bang for Buck, May 05, 2004

Greens look tricky, but are generally fair. They are never as fast as they look. Beautiful scenery. We usually see deer. It is one of the few courses in SoCal which you can "walk-on," even on a weekend morning. Expect the ball to break away from the mountains when you read your putts. It is not the easiest course to walk, but it is not near as tough to walk as Mountain Meadows in nearby Pomona. Course is plenty long enough although big hitters will probably want to keep your driver in the bag on 3, 8, and 12 (unless you have an awesome draw and know the course). 7 is a very tough par 3 with about a 200 yard tee shot to a green you cannot see. The course has some very interesting corners to it. I love the layout of 1-2-3 and 10-11-12. 1 and 10 are reach-able par 5s, 2 and 11 are scenic par 3s, while 3 and 12 are fair, dogleg lefts. This is a county course so it is not very expensive. I like playing around 4pm when it costs $11 to walk. Students are $5 all day on weekdays. Hit'em straight and keep it below the hole.

Trickier than you think and don't EVER walk., Jan 23, 2004

Marshall Canyon is a fun course with some quirky holes but for the most part it is pretty fair. The greens are trickier than you think and there are some hole placements that totally suck if you get above the hole. It is a hilly course that you don't want to walk unless you are in very good walking shape. All in all, it is a good course with a decent price.
