Horrible staff, Jul 04, 2010 |

| My problems are with the staff not the golf course. First off, I took 2 practice swings while standing on the tee box on the very first hole while waiting for the group on the first hole ahead of us to clear the fairway and head to the green. I am an 8 handicap and took 2 driver swings that barely brushed the grass. No divot, no mark to the teeing ground at all. The starter looks at me and says “watch the turf”. I look at him and say “excuse me?” He says we don’t allow practice swings on the tees. I informed him that I have played all over this country and in other countries and nobody has ever said that to me. He says “well, that’s the rule here”. I let it go. He then says a few minutes later: “you know you would have been thrown off the course if this was Bethpage”. So, now I’m really aggravated. I look over at the sign with all the course rules and it does not say anything about practice swings being prohibited. So, I point to it and say to the starter “if that’s the rule here you need to put on the sign over there. How else would anybody know about your weird rule.” Problem #2: my foursome is out in the fairway on the 17th hole. We have a threesome in front of us that is maybe a hole ahead of us. The group behind us has not waited for us to hit a shot since the 2nd hole. A Ranger comes up to us and tells us we need to pick up the pace. We tell him that the group ahead of is a threesome and the group behind us hasn’t even been close to waiting for us since the very beginning of the round. He says in a nasty way that the rule here is you have to keep up with the group ahead of you no matter what. When I again say the group ahead is a threesome he says that they are playing at a foursome’s pace. My group was not playing slowly at all. We were on pace for a 4 hour and 10 minute round and nobody was behind us! The worst part is he says it to us when we are in the 17th fairway. There’s no way any time could have been made up at that point. We go into the clubhouse and tell the Pro who was at the counter about our 2 incidents. He says in a somewhat confrontational way that the rule is you have to keep up with the group ahead of you. But, after I told him that we were told this on the 17th fairway, he begrudgingly said that was way too late to change anything and that the ranger should have never said anything. Then he also begrudgingly said that there is no such rule about taking practice swings on the tee. The point here is if he was at least sincerely apologetic I would have been OK with it. But, he admitted in a very nonchalant, like too bad you were lucky to get to play here way that we were mishandled. We left and didn’t stop for a drink like we were going to, because we didn’t want to give them another dime of our money. The course is nice. Nice layout and in pretty good condition overall. I would have played there again at some point in the future (would not have rushed back for the course itself), but now I would never go back there because of the way the staff treated us. The course gets 3 stars and the staff gets 0 stars. The funny thing is I read other reviews before I played there that had negative things to say about the staff there too. So, there is definitely a problem with the staff there. |

| Called the pro shop to get a tee time. Only available one was a 1 pm. No problem signed up. Got to the course about 45 minutes early only to find out their was a outing. Our foursome was sandwiched in with another foursome starting on the 18th. hole. A typical 4 hour game turned into 5+ hours. The aggravating part was we were NEVER informed of a outing. The money grubbers operating this course jammed as many extra players as they could. Totally unacceptable, I will never again set foot on their course. Be sure to ask before you go otherwise they will screw you like they did to us. |

| My friends and I (all avid golfers) consider this to be the best pay-to-play course we have found within an hour or so of NYC/So. Westchester. Challenging but not brutal, excellently maintained, gorgeous greens for a public course (it is semi-private), pretty setting and nice layout. if it were a little closer to me (NYC), I would play it all the time. |

Nice course, rude staff, Jan 15, 2008 |

| Played the course with a friend in the summer of 2007. Had heard good things about the club and since I was living in Dutchess county at the time, it seemed like it would be a nice outing. That is until we arrived at the club. From the start, save for the pro shop, we were not shown any politeness or even a smile. The course, taken by it's self is nice, but certainly not all it's advertising make's it out to be. If you live close by it's worth a play, but would not reccomend a trip of any distance to play this course. |

| The review about the former pro is outdated. Mr Carr no longer works at the Links. The new pro is a true professional that treats all golfers, members or no members the same. The course is an emerald gem that is just an hour out of NYC. It has been chosen twice as a qualifying site for the US Amateur Open. Leave the driver in the bag for all but 2 holes. Shot placement is a must for this course. A great way to hone course managment. Just because one has a bad experience does not make the course bad. Give it another shot and you wil be amazed. Chosen by Surburban Golf Magazine as the top new public golf course for the year 2000. |

Irish links golf, Aug 28, 2005 |

| The Links requires careful play. Bunkers are everywhere requiring careful study of the course book provided with your scorecard. You have to manage the course. For example, I had a four Iron shot into a green with a large deep bunker in front and junk immediately behind the green. I took a seven iron and played it short and to a safe area to the right and then a pitch shot onto the green. Played for a bogie and avoided the double or worse. This is not a course that gives up low scores, expect to score higher than usual. Expect to loose balls, the rough and ponds make that inevitable. Course is not for beginners, occasional players, or emotional players. |

Terrible People at Union Vale, Jul 28, 2004 |

| I will never recommend this course to anyone, simply because the Golf Pro, Cairan, is an unkind and inhospitable host who would not allow us to move our tee time to another day and charged me and my friends $260 when we couldn't show up - we asked him just to move it to the next weekend and he wouldn't do it. So he basically made almost $300 at my expense. If he can sleep at night, then he has no conscience. As an irishman and a golfer, I am embarassed, and I'm spreading the word. |
