This course's greens are very large. There are many trees lining the fairways, and two lakes come into play on seven holes. The signature hole is #12, a 227-yard, par 3, requiring an approach shot over water to a rather small, undulating green. The direct line for tee times is (562) 429-9711.

Long but Fun, Mar 02, 2004
reviewer: Al Carpenter from Lakewood, CA
Lakewood CC is a fun course with a plenty of challenges for everyone. LA County has just recently added new cart paths, hundreds of trees and revamped the bunkers. Lakewood tends to play long (7200 yds from the tips). I find that you have to use a lot of different shots to have a good round. The #1 handicap hole is a long dogleg right that requires a good tee shot. Whenever I par this hole I feel like it was a birdie. There is also two 200+yd par 3's (from blue) that will challenge most. The #12 is long and over water (and water on the left) but lots of room in front on the green. If you don't have the length, a lay-up is a smart play. The par 5's are pretty straight forward with only two of them realistically reachable in 2 (unless you're Tiger). Like all public courses, LWCC tends to slow down later in the day (more right now as SkyLinks is closed for remodeling). But it rarely gets bad and allows for unrushed walking. The people are great and you have to try the soup at the shack (between #2/#3 and #9/#10). I give it 4 stars when comparing it to other county/muni courses and the price can't be beat ($29 walking on weekend).
