This resort was named to "GOLF Magazine's" 1998 list of "Silver Medal Resorts." The front nine is located on the side of a mountain, providing some spectacular views. The back nine is more open than the front nine and not as hilly. The greens are fast and medium-sized, and the fairways vary in width and are tree lined on the front nine. Water hazards come into play on several holes, including #17, a 308-yard, par 4, which calls for an approach shot to an island green. The signature hole is #8, a 444-yard, par 4, offering a panoramic view of the surrounding countryside and a 250-foot drop in elevation from the tee box to the fairway. This hole has a lake and a fairway sand bunker on the right and a hillside on the left side of the fairway. "Golf Digest" rated this course as the 13th "Best in State" course for 1995-96, and 15th in 1997-98. The weather around this course can be totally different from its sister course, the Challenge at Manele. This course is located at about 1,800 feet of elevation and can have fog and rain, while it is sunny at the beach side.

Enjoyable golf in one of the world's greatest settings, Feb 13, 2004 |

| The Experience at Koele is a very nice Greg Norman designed layout that will having you often looking at the scenery in lieu of thinking about your next shot. One of two golf coures on the very upscale and exclusive island of Lanai, playing the Experience is a wonderful way to spend part of the day. The staff are very friendly and cater to whatever you need. Guests are there to have a good time and many people from around the globe find their way to Lanai to stay and play. When I played, the course was not quiet mature enough and, when mature, the golf course will be superb. It has been three years since then and I look forward to the next time I get a chance to stay on Lanai and enjoy again this course and/or the Nicklaus course near the ocean. If I only had one resort visit left in me, it would be to the Manele Bay Hotel and the island of Lanai. What more can I say. |
