Angel Park Golf Club - Mountain Course100 S Rampart Blvd Las Vegas, NV 89145 Phone: (702)254-4653Fax: (702)254-0566
This club has two regulation eighteen hole courses, a twelve hole par 3 course, and an eighteen hole putting course. The club, nestled 3,000 feet above sea level against the breathtaking Spring Mountains and Red Rock Canyon, overlooks the fabulous Las Vegas Strip. The Palm Course's most challenging hole is #12, a 220-yard, par 3, featuring sand bunkers guarding the front of its green. The Mountain Course is very hilly and open. The greens are sloped and fast, and there are many trees that come into play throughout the course. It has been built to reflect some of the famous holes seen from various courses throughout the world. Hole #1, "Double Green," represents the famous double greens at St. Andrews in Scotland. Hole #10, named "Island Green," requires a 100-yard tee shot over water to an island green. This hole pays homage to the innovative Pete Dye who is credited with the island green design. This is the only course that you are allowed to walk. From the scenery, to the staff, to Arnold Palmer's uncompromising Championship courses, Angel Park has earned it's reputation throughout the southwest as one of the finest full-service golf facilities. The eighteen hole, night-lit putting course is filled with sand bunkers and water hazards, making it a challenge for even the best putters. The Cloud 9 Course is also night lit. Other practice facilities include a night lit, double-sided practice range and practice greens.

| FORGET THE INTRODUCTION! Most of the information regarding this course on the host page describes the Angel Park par-3 Cloud Nine course, not the Mountain Course as it states.
You'll find the Mountain Course interesting, challenging enough and always in great shape- a hallmark at the Angel Park Courses and indeed any of the valley's OB Sports courses. Lakes guard 3 of the greens and fairways with yawning desert canyons ready to gobble up any wayward shots on the right side on some few holes. The greens are sloped fairly steeply and medium speed and remember you're almost 1,000 feet above the Strip; putts will always be faster than they look when putting downhill in that direction, so be warned! There are forced carries from about 5 tees, but 2 of those are short par-3's. There are a few tricks, like reasonably long hitters can go through the fairway and into the lake that borders the 18th, and be aware that the shortest par-3, the 11th, features a tiny green, almost no room to miss and difficult putting from anywhere except below the cup.
There's a nice variety of holes and although the par-71 layout (three par-5's) isn't particularly long or hilly, you'll need to be fairly accurate to take advantage. The fairways are reasonable in width but stray shots will seldom go unpunished.
The price is affordable, especially compared to other Las Vegas courses and you'll find quite a few holes to hold your interest during the round. All in all, a solid 3 1/2 star course with an extra 1/2 thrown in for being affordable- a good deal in this city! If there's any beef about Angel Park, it's that the driving range prices are ridiculously high- about 12 cents a ball for a "large" bag (about a medium bucket's worth) compared to about 6-7 cents at most places out of state, but I guess that's "Vegas, Baby"....
Have fun! |
