Mount Massive Golf Course

This facility claims that its course was built at the highest elevation in North America, 10,000 feet about sea level. In the month of September, the frost needs to melt before players are allowed on the course, so starting tee times vary between 7 AM to 10 AM. The course was built at the bases of Mt. Elbert, Colorado's highest mountain, and Mt. Massive, Colorado's second highest mountain. It was built in an extremely scenic valley that is home to an abundance of wildlife, such as prairie dogs, elk, and deer. The natural rough, a combination of sagebrush and wildflowers, is very fragile at this altitude, so carts are not permitted in the rough. There is an additional set of tees that can be used when playing an eighteen hole round.

A must-play course!, Jul 05, 2004 |

| What a fantastic experience to play this course. The views are stunning, and just knowing you're playing the highest course in the continental US is worth the price of admission. A very playable course, with a few quirks thrown in here and there. Such as a par three hole where you can't see the green. Make sure you look it up an a map first before you go, because just finding the course can be a bear as there are no signs pointing the way. I thought "In a town as small as Leadville, how hard can it be to find the golf course?". Well, I found out. |

| It's fun because of the high elevation (your ball will fly) and scenery, but as a course it is just your generic community course - very flat and uninteresting holes. |

Nice laid back course, Jun 08, 2004 |

| I have played this course for a number of years with a foresome that enjoys huge mountain views, cooler weather and longer drives (10,000 foot altitude). Not the most challenging course in the area but the smaller greens give the course a short game challenge. Mostly level play with few water hazards. Inexpensive and great staff. Just plain fun. |
