A nice course, Aug 09, 2005 |

| In my opinion, probably the third best of the four municipal courses in Lincoln, behind Highlands and Pioneers. The front nine is very basic, moderate length, fairly straight. The greatest challenge of this course could be that you rarely will have a flat lie, as most of the fairways slope one way or another, especially on the front. The ninth is a tough finish, a 240 yd uphill par 3. The back nine is more challenging with water coming into play and a couple par 4s where the driver is best left in the bag. Overall, a well-maintained, enjoyable course. Not very quiet, though, with two busy streets passing by the course. |

Good Golf Test, May 24, 2004 |

| Holmes is one of my favorites in Lincoln, NE. It starts out with a long dogleg-right par 5 that can be reached in 2 by the long hitters. The 4th hole is a driveable par 4 that ends on a small oval green which is inviting to long shots but treacherous if missed long. The hardest hole on the front 9 is the 190+ par 3 9th hole which plays at least 30 yds. farther because it is uphill. A 3 iron or fairway wood is necessary to get the ball up the steep hill. The back nine offers more great golf. Several of the holes offer players more than one way to get home( long hitters may opt to go over the low trees on the right on #13 for a shorter 2nd shot to the green). Short hitters will enjoy the par 3 14th which plays around 145 yards to a massive green with slight undulations. This course will not be the most difficult that you play in Lincoln. However, the course conditions are great, the pace is relaxed, and the views of the local Holmes Lake/Park area are serene. Play at least 1 round at Holmes Park Golf Course and you won't be disappointed. |
