This mountainous course, located 5,000 feet above sea level, is the highest course east of the Mississippi. It was carved out of the natural terrain and has fairly wide-open fairways. "Golf Digest" rated this as the 14th "Best in State" course for 1995-96, and the 16th best for 1997-98. The heavily-undulating greens are large, and water hazards come into play on five holes. The signature hole is #11, a 389-yard, par 4, located at the highest point on the course and overlooking Grandfather Mountain. Mountain lions, foxes, bobcats, and other wildlife are frequently seen on the course.

Breath Taking Views, Mar 30, 2004

A great golf experience. If you are ever presented with the oppurtunity to play this ultra-private golf club...DO NOT PASS IT UP. Linville Ridge presents some of the most amazing views you could imagine. It is also home to some of the fastest greens in the country. One correction to the description...it is true that Linville Ridge does have the highest point on a golf course east of the Missisippi River, it is not the 11th hole, but rather the the Par 3, 8th hole. The 8th hole is one of the most incrediable Par 3's you will ever play. It measures just under 200 yards from the tips and I have seen people hit as little as 9 iron there becasue of the severe down hill shape of the hole. On a clear day from the 8th tee one can see the skyline of Charlotte, which is over 80 miles away. This is one of five true gems in the Linville area, (Grandfather, Linville Golf Club, Elk River, and Double Black Diamond). Each of these course is more exclusive than the previous, good luck getting on any of them.
