This course provides both hard and easy holes to play. The greens are fast, and the course was built on rolling hills. The opening holes literally flow toward the Long Island Sound. Water hazards come into play on the first three holes. William S. Flynn redesigned the course in the 1930's. "Golf Digest" rated it as the 14th "Best in State" for 1997-98, and "GOLFWEEK" selected it 74th among "America's 100 Best Classical Courses" for 1998 and 77th in 1999. "GOLF Magazine" also selected it 82nd among the "Top 100 Courses in the U.S." for 1999. Guests are not allowed to play the course unless accompanied by a club member.

Played it a few times and cannot believe that it is hidden away from the general public...what a special course! Park, links, sandy beach, water, bald greens, cape holes, fescue...the sound...If you have a chance, take it.

I used to caddy here as a kid, but had the chance to play it a few times. This course has it all, including one of the biggest greens I have seen on a par 3 all the way down on the water of L.I. sound. The greens are tremendous, and it sure is a treat for anyone who gets a chance to play.

Hillcrest Golf Club
"Shape your game"
I grew up the area playing this course weekly for many years.I shaped my game at this little gem. Sixteen years later I play golf in Austin and work with a team of middle school golfers. As for Hilcrest...The first 3 holes are par 3s.(W/9,5/6, W/SW) They added some water to number one and moved the tee years ago. It puts a whole new spin on number one. People are less likely to hit the cars in the parking lot and/or Mr. Wilson's house too. Huge pines could save your ball from a feild(now the driving range) on the left if you are hooker.People teeing off on number eight and on 7's green also come in to play for some bad slicers. Three had a huge Oak that came into play for high wedges coming in from the left side. Water fountain at 4 was nice In July and august. Number 4 is a ~310yard par 4. Little ditch running accross about 270? made many people lay-up. Eagleable on many days. Another par 3 follows a treeline for Hole 5 and then my favorite par 4 is next. Over a wide lake...that eats up every bad slice for righties. Another eagleable ~300yarder. The lake has nice size bass in it too. Seven is the only par 5, a dogleg to the right. Eight is a par 4 with a huge ditch eating drives by the minute. And we end with a par 4, left dogleg that is reachable with a crush over the corner. Lights added make night golf fun! Drving range is huge so you have plenty of swing room.

"Wide Open Drive"
Fairly well kept course, the fairways are wide open for the most psrt, so if you lose your new Titlest, its your fault...There are a few water hazards in challengable spots. Bunkers are all easily avoidable. This is actually a challenging course, but one that wont drive you nuts with every stroke. Its also a pretty good course for those who arent, Arnold Palmer. You have to know your game, but it allows for mistakes, without costing you 3 strokes. The trees are beautiful, and the wildlife around the course adds to the experience. Its nice to find a place like this tucked among the city, and tall radio towers, which are right in the middle of the course, between holes nine and ten, which is the primary problem spot for this course. Its priced right, and a good challenge for the money.

Blue Lakes Country Club
"Unreal"
Blue Lakes C.C. is one of the best courses I have played, and I have been all over the country. Deep in the Snake River Canyon, there is not one shot that isnt breath taking. Rob Ellis, has done a great job with his staff, and golf course. If anyone gets the opportunity to play this magnificant course, do not pass it up. I would pay 2ce or 3 times as much to play this course again.

"Little Jewel"
My rating is based against other courses of this size and type. The course was immaculate and the greens quick and true. The entire grounds were gorgeous, well watered with no brown spots at all. A real pleasure to play.
