Worth a visit, Sep 07, 2005

This course is a very good course for beginners and for those who aren't long hitters. For those players I would rate it as four or five stars. And the price is reasonable. The back nine is harder than the front. Although, they have made several improvements over the last year to lengthen three holes on the front nine. I find the greens consistently in good shape. The grass on the greens is unusual in that it feels soft and fluffy. You would expect them to be slow but they are faster than they seem. This is my wife's favorite course and a good one for us to play together. It is also a good place to play when you are cramped for time. You can get through 18 holes in about 3.5 hours. It is a course that challenges your accuracy and allows you to use clubs you may not use much on longer courses.

The greens and tea spots are poorly maintained. The wooded area provides for an unpleasant experience due to the mass of insects, especially along the mid holes of the back 9. Policy of being 21 or older to rent a cart drives away young customers. Very short game play especially on the front 9, there are a couple decent sized holes on back 9. Quality of fairways is very inconsistent as well. One nice thing is that the employees and pro are very pleasant. THe course quality needs to improve greatly if it wants people to drive all the way out there.

Emerald Lakes Golf Center
"The nicest 9 hole around"
Emerald Lakes is a fun little course that provides the basic golf experiance to the younger golfers in the Elk Grove area. The course has many hazards, including hole 5 which is as good as an island hole as you could get at any 9 hole course. The Course tends to be real hard in the summer and extremely wet during the winter. Give the grass at least 3 or 4 days to soak up water after a hard rain or you'll be chipping out of the mud on most holes. Overall, the course provides just enough amusement to keep the low end golfers happy, while aslo providing a great practice facility including a driving range, chipping green, and putting green. The bottom line, this is the best 9 hole course in the Elk Grove Area.

Sand Ridge Golf Club
"Best of Ohio"
Sand Ridge is one of the best golf courses in the country. Even though greens are not all that fast they are always in perfect condition at all times of the year and the fairways are some of the best i have ever played from. The caddie program has some of the best and friendliest caddies in the nation.

Lakes at El Segundo, The
"Great Course, Better Practice Facility"
The Lakes at El Segundo is a beutiful course with some stunning par 3s. The couse is made up of moslty short par 3s and a couple short par 4s. The holes are all very short and beautifully kept. This couse can be played by both beginners and eperts alike. The downsides are that the course is crowded, so expect to wait on the tees. I recomend reservations several days in advance. The other downside is that your day is over after only nine holes. The practice facility is excellent and Tiger Woods, who has a home in nearby Redondo Beach can often be seen playing there. It has an awesome driving range and a huge putting and chipping green. If your just out to get some practice in, or a quick nine holes, this is the place.
