A real gem that needs to be responsibly developed, May 13, 2004

It's love at first sight with Loon Lake Golf Course. Fly from NYC (via Albany) to the small but highly trafficked Lake Clear Airport or fly into Montreal and drive down to Loon Lake. The course is challenging and just plain fun. The views, the variety, the challenges all make this what golf is really about. You feel like you are getting a taste of St. Andrews.

a step back in time, Mar 08, 2004
reviewer: Mike from Rainbow Lake, NY
This is a fun little course with gorgeous views on the wide open front nine and a true test of a golfer's abilities on the tight, wooded back nine. The back 9 was built in 1895 and is a well designed gem by noted golf course architect Seymour Dunn. Walk this quiet course and you'll feel like you've somehow stepped back in time. Avoid the black flies in late May/early June (they'll carry you away! If you can handle the little vampire bugs, playing this course on a breezy day in May with the die hard locals is a quietly rewarding experience). Play this course in late June/early July for a real treat. September golf is also fun here and the colors late in the month are spectacular, especially from the 9th green. Course maintenance is minimal, but the small crew does wonders with the budget they have to work with. Don't miss playing this course as the future is uncertain--the owners are unsure whether the course will remain open for much longer. This is a unique golf experience for anyone interested in the roots and origin of the game of golf. Thanks, Mike
