This course's fairways are lined with mature trees and a standard cut of rough. The average-sized greens are in fairly good condition considering all the play this public facility receives. Numerous sand bunkers have been incorporated into the course design, mainly around the greens, so accurate approach shots are especially critical. The terrain is somewhat hilly, making some of the holes play longer than the yardage indicates. You are required to have a Los Angeles City card to get on this course. The club annually hosts the Senior PGA Tour's Ralph's Senior Classic.

Really good for a big city, public course. Nice location, smack in the middle of West LA, near Beverly Hills and Century City. Only a 20 minute drive from Santa Monica and Hollywood. Course has a 2 story driving range and multiple putting practice greens.

As I live in the area I have played this course about 50 times in the last three years that I have rededicated myself to my game. This is a well maintained challenging course. Lots of dog leg rights that demand you be left on the drive. Slicers beware. As well as several challenging par 3s. This is a busy course and can play 5 1/2 hours on some weekends. So be prepared to practice patience and enjoy a truly must play course.

Rancho is one of the most difficult courses because you are constantly driving uphill or the fareway is sloping mostly right and sometimes left, the greens ungulate so much that you need a calculator! There are also looming tree branches that have just enought reach to knock the wind out of your ball. It is one greenest courses that I have played (So & No Cal.)
