Holes #4, a 183-yard, par 3, which requires a tee shot over water, and #18, a 582-yard, par 5, with a tree-lined fairway and well-protected green, were voted the two toughest holes in the State of Texas. The course was rated the 2nd best course in the State of Texas by the "Dallas Morning News."

Great Course, tough greens, play the whole course!, Oct 22, 2008
reviewer: Rick from Dallas
Our group of 45 year old players went for two full days of fun at Crown Colony, we are 10 -15 handicaps. This is a great golf course with holes that keep your attention at all times, it is a must play for any long time golfer. The course is a fair shotmaker layout, but the greens make it very difficult, we did not score well as a group. If you play the course, do yourself a favor and play the back tees. The white tees bring so much trouble in to play, it becomes target golf. The championship tees provide an opportunity to hit driver all day with appropriate landing areas. From the championship tees you can swing away, experience some great views, and enjoy par 3s that are unrivaled.

Great Course, Jul 14, 2005

I have played this course plenty, and it is a beautiful example of a well-designed course. There aren't greens like these anywhere else in Texas. The fairways are narrow but hitable. Don't play here unless you can hit your irons well and/or play out of sand. The bunkers here are deep and menacing, but this course rewards good play.

Fair and Punishing, Jul 13, 2005

After seeing an article in Texas Golfer a group of 5 buddies and I went and played Crown Colony. The summer rate was only 55.00 + 13 for an extra 18, quite a good deal. I had played the course about 8 years ago and it has not changed at all. We had 2 single digit HCP in the group and the others up to 20. If you look at the scorecard and see 6692 yards and chuckle you are in for a rude surprise. At Crown the course is setup exactly the opposite the way the pros like it. Fast hard greens and fairways that do not roll. Dont get me wrong the fairways are perfect but 60-70% of everyones drives roll less then 10 feet. These are by far as a collection the hardest 13 fairways to hit you will ever play. 4 of the greens are guarded by bunkers that 8-11 feet deep, very intimidating. 4 of the 5 par 3's are very very difficult. You either hit the green or take double, absolutely NO bail out. If you want a challenge or laugh at your fellow competitors as they buffoon it around the course this is it. I made 9 birdies in 3 rounds and they are there but in 1 twenty minute stretch on 4,5,6 I was 7 over. The only drawback to the course is the 18th green. It is only 14-16 feet wide for about 50 feet before it opens up in the back. Both sides have sand and it is basicly unfair and looks like t need a windmil. After the 1st day everyone just played up short and tried to get up and down. It plays 585 yards and the approach is not fun. From 155 yards my approach missed the green by 2 feet and actualy hole by 7 feet, I was dead and took 7. Even the pro said that hole needed to be redone as the green as lost 4 feet on both sides. Overall great condition, great food, great greens and fairways. Tougher then anything in Houston, including Champions on a wet day. Andrew

AMAZING!, May 24, 2005

What a pleasure to play this golf course! The par 3's are as good as anywhere, and after having heard about so many great holes, I found some of the less heralded to be as challenging as any. Simply a great golf course, and the locals who surely don't love "out of towners" coming to their paradise, more than lived up to Texas hospitality! Wonderful people, wonderful golf course, can't wait to get back

this is a great challenging course! its short on the score card, but not when you are playing it. The course lets you hit many different styles of shots, and the greens are the best i've ever putted on.
