This course was built out of the natural rolling terrain, but its not to difficult to walk. The large greens are undulating, and golfers should note that on weekends, walking the course is only allowed after 1 PM. There are water hazards that come into play on a few holes.

The course is good, but the neighborhood not so..., Apr 10, 2009 |

| This is a challenging course for the mid handicapper. The staff is courteous and the facilities adequate. As the name of the course suggests, there is a significant amount of elevation change on almost every hole. Many of the fairways are also sloped side to side. Only rarely do you find yourself with a completely flat lie in the fairway. The combination of forced layups and uneven lies will put a premium on your iron-game. The greens were much better last summer then they had been the previous years - and we'll see how the come back this summer. They tend to be firm and a little bumpy though. The par 5s are fun - only two of them are relatively straight. One par 5 on the back nine has a forced carry over water which gives players a nice risk-reward opportunity. The par 4s are moderate in length and somewhat tight with trees lining the fairways. Two of them have a blind tee-shot down a steep hill sloping to the left - what fun! The par 3's are fun - two are pretty short and guarded by water/bunkers, the others are longer and guarded by bunkers. Now for the downside of this course... Several of the houses that border the course are run-down eye sores, and some of the 'locals' are less then courteous. I've had teenagers heckling me on putts and vagrants walk across a fairway just as I was tee-ing up. I realize the course management cannot do too much about this...but it's a detractor. |

I LOVE THIS COURSE, Mar 25, 2007 |

| CHEASAPEAKE HILLS GC HAS A VERY SPECIAL PLACE IN MY HEART GOING BACK INTO THE EARLY 70'S. I'M FROM WEST VIRGINIA BUT SPENT A CONSIDERABLE AMOUNT OF TIME GROWING UP IN THE PLUM POINT AREA IN THE SUMMERS FOR OVER 40 YEARS. WHEN I WAS LEARNING TO PLAY GOLF BACK IN WHEELING, WV, ON SOME VERY NICE COURSES, I LOOKED FORWARD TO ANY CHANCE TO PLAY AT CHESAPEAKE, (ACTUALLY I WAS VERY NERVOUS AS A TEENAGER PLAYING WITH SEASONED VETERANS WHO WERE MEMBERS THERE!). DURING OUR VACATION I USUALLY ONLY GOT TO PLAY 1 TIME PER YEAR. BACK THEN THE COMPLEX WAS CHESAPEAKE COUNTRY CLUB, AND NOT ONLY THE COURSE WAS ENJOYABLE BUT THE RESTAURANT AND POOL WERE IN FULL SWING. I WAS SORRY TO SEE THE POOL CLOSE AND I SENSED THINGS HAD GONE DOWN HILL A BIT, BUT AM GLAD IT HAS BEEN IMPROVING AS CHGC. I REALIZE IT'S BEEN UNDER THE NEWER NAME(S) FOR MANY YEARS, AND IT'S BEEN ABOUT 5 SINCE I PLAYED THERE, BUT I WOULD LOVE TO PLAY AGAIN WHEN MY SCHEDULE PERMITS. I HAVE LIFELONG FRIENDS WHO STILL LIVE IN THE AREA AND I HOPE TO SOMEDAY BE A PERMANENT RESIDENT OF THE BAY AREA IN CALVERT COUNTY. THIS COURSE WAS ALWAYS 5 STARS IN MY HEART, AND WHO KNOWS HOW NICE IT COULD BECOME - THERE'S CERTAINLY ENOUGH POPULATION COUPLED WITH VERY FEW COURSES IN THAT PART OF SOUTHERN MD THAT I'M SURE IT COULD SUSTAIN ITSELF. HOPE THIS MADE SOME PEOPLE ENJOY A PERSONAL REMINISCENCE AND I'D LOVE IT IF SOMEONE ELSE WOULD REPLY WITH THEIR COMMENTS OR STORIES ABOUT CHESAPEAKE CC OR CHGC! |
