X-OUTS LOVE HOMESTEAD, Jul 20, 2004

My golf group, the Boeing Employees Golf Association T. Berry X-OUTS League, has had the pleasure of visiting Homestead Farms in mid-August for the past six years for a 54 hole tournament competed by about 20 golfers over three days. Homestead makes the reservations for three days of play and we always play our final round at the Homestead course. For the third consecutive year we will also play Semi-ah-moo and Loomis Trail, certainly ranked among the outstanding courses on the West Coast, as is Homestead. We are accomodated at the condominiums along the sixth fairway. They are always immaculately maintained and have everything required for a very pleasant stay. The staff at Homestead are genuinely devoted to assuring as pleasant a stay as possible for a bunch of old men (our average age is about 67). The restaurant fare is excellent and the bar fun. Forest Heights Country Club
"South Georgia's best secret"
What a wonderful couse that plays well all year round. This couse will test all skill levels but is fair. With wide fairways but tough rough and a lot of trees if you miss the fairway. Fairly long most par 4 play between 380 to 410 yards. Water comes into play on 5 holes. Couse is in great shape and a 3 1/2 hour round is the norm!

Wilshire Golf Club
"Good Challenge; Poor Conditions."
Wilshire is a challenge in disguise. With many decisions shots like weather to carry the creek on the first hole or whether or not to cut the corner off of the 17th. But the adverse course condidions can discourage most golfers that are looking for a challenge. Shabby fairways and greens give it a rough appearance but it is a good deal for the price.

Member : I found this golf course very changing and beautiful. Even though the course is somewhat short, it is heavily guarded with trees and it has a fair amount of sand around the greens and 3 fairway bunkers, the 1st is on #3 and the other 2 on #17 . The greens are very will maintained with a good quick pace to them. It would be wise to keep it in the short grass because the ruff can get pretty hairy. The best thing about this course is that the average cost to play is $20 to $40 dollars with cart. The down side is that it is located in the sticks (Corry Pa.), about 50 to 60 minutes south east of Erie Pa. They recently started taking take t-times about 2 years ago, so you can call ahead and schedule your time (up to 3 days ahead). If you like a changing and scenic golf course you should take the short trip to North Hills and give the course a try. Happy golfing R.A.W.

Spring Valley Country Club
"Challenging course"
Spring Valley is an older club that recently upgraded the course layout. They changed 3 or 4 holes in the last few years. The course has no housing development on it and includes several holes that require specific tee shot placement. A good deal of wooded area surrounds the course and water does come into play on several holes. The clubhouse is typical country club and I suggest the prime rib. Outstanding.
