This course's oceanside location provides a scenic view. From the green on hole #9, the ocean is about 100 yards away. The fairways are mostly flat, but there are some hills on the back nine. Some of the tees and greens are elevated. There are sand bunkers on just about every green. The course is closed on Tuesdays until noon. Geoffrey Cornish and Brian Silva redesigned this course in 1985.

A small and wonderful gem, Mar 08, 2004

The Madsion Country Club is located near Long Island sound in a very open and pleasnt setting. The course is always kept in wondeful condition and the greens are just magnificent. The front nine is relatively flat and open, with water coming into play on three of the holes. The back nie is a bit more of a challenge because of the more undulating topography and trees. Little wonder why the club has a huge waitng list.

Cameron Hills Golf Links
"One of the Best I've played"
I had a wonderful time playing Cameron Hills last season. I found this shorter course was both enjoyable and challenging. This is my first year swinging a club and I have visited several courses. I felt this course allowed me to play a challenging round while improving my skills without the frustration of the harder courses. Even though Cameron Hills is an hour away from home, I plan on making a couple of trips to the links this year. I played the course right after Hurricane Isabel played through and the only problem I had with the course was the debris from the hurricane. I don't hold that against Cameron Hills, they made a good attempt at working around the fallen trees. Thanks for a great time, I'm looking forward to visiting again.

Wendigo Golf Club
"3 today 4-5 tomorrow"
18 months ago this course was finally purchased by someone who really wanted to make a statement about the course. They finally finished off the exiting log structure into a beautiful clubhouse/restaurant/bar. With fantastic views of the course, there are few clubhouses that can beat this "19th hole". The course itself did need some work, the greens looked like they had had some issues over the winter. There are plans underway to relocate holes 8 & 9 (which is a good thing, they are probably the most blah holes on the course) and build a 60 room hotel. All-in-all the course is still one of my favorite courses up in GR. Some TLC to the greens and this course is one of the best in northern Minnesota.

Palmetto Golf Course
"Surprisingly challenging course"
Palmetto golf course in Miami is not a championship level course. That being said, it is a good course for the mid- to high-handicapper, and when the wind is up can challenge low-handicappers as well. The course is not long or narrow, and like all Miami courses is primarily flat. However, water does come into play on 10 of the holes (although on most it's a visual nuisance only) and can easily ruin a good round. The 'signature' third hole is a good example. The water on this hole is a canal that fronts the entire green (about 10-12 yards in front of it) and makes your second shot somewhat intimidating. In fact, when the wind is up, you may have anything from a mid to a long iron in, and quite a few people play it as a par-5 and just lay up to 100 yards to avoid the thought of a 180-200 yard carry over water to a short (but wide) green. The better player will not be intimidated, but the average golfer can be. Palmetto has several holes that reward target golf, as some of the greens (such as the par 3 11th) are huge, meaning if you miss on the wrong side you could easily be left with a putt of 60-80 feet. Others, such as the short par-3 17th, feature tiny greens surrounded by bunkers. The main complaint about this course is the greens. They tend to be uneven in speed from hole to hole and day to day, and often are not very smooth. That being said, when they do run true, they can be tough, as they have numerous ridges and slopes that make for slippery par putts. Overall Palmetto is a very good value. While it doesn't compare to the elite courses in the area, for a nice day of golf, particularly for the average (mid to high handicap) golfer, this is a good pick.
