This course was closed for renovation during 1997 and reopened in 1998 with improved drainage, renovated greens, new fairways, reshaped bunkers, and other redesigns to certain elements on some holes. The layout includes water hazards (over 100 small lakes) coming into play on every hole. The fairways are sloping and well bunkered, placing a premium on shot accuracy. The greens are also well sloped and somewhat fast.

toughest in ohio, Aug 14, 2007
reviewer: michael from mentor, ohio
This is probably the toughest course in Ohio. If you don't believe me, look at the slope and course rating. It used to be a breeding ground for fish, so it has water everywhere. The fairways are also very narrow. You should only use your driver on a few holes on the whole course. The greens are pretty tough too. If you are good with accuracy and putting you can play here. If you can't hit straight, you will lose a lot of balls.

The Thunder I remember !!, Sep 04, 2004
reviewer: C Delly from Brunswick, Ohio
Back when the course was new and PRIVATE I had a chance to play Thunder Hill. The challenges of this golf course are many. Lower handicapers will be rewarded with great conditions throughout the course with spectacular scenery. Higher handicapers bring lots of balls because shots that stray will disappear into many ponds throughout the course. The new management has brought this great course back to the glory days of old. The staff is friendly and caring to the needs of it's golfers. So bring your "A" game and some extra golf balls and enjoy a great golf experience.

Excellent Course.. Play the Back Tees if you dare..., Apr 08, 2004
reviewer: Dave B from Cleveland
This is one of the better public courses in Ohio in my opinion. The facilities are nice and the layout is very challenging. If you have the game play the black (Thunder) tees. At 7700 yards this is not the tee for the 18 handicapper. Accuracy is a must from any teebox. More often than not a poorly hit approach shot can end up as a double bogey or worse. This course has some spectacular holes, #17 stands out among the best. More than worth the price.
