| The yellow line review included on this site is very outdated, carts are welcome everywhere on yahara with the obvious exceptions of the greens, yahara's two eighteens are an excellent and varied test of anyones golf game. |

Yahara Pros and Cons, May 19, 2007

| Located across from Dane County's only Landfill, Yahara Hills offers bog like conditions spanned across 200+ acres of sunken terrain. With the largest Tees and Greens in the state, (maybe even the Midwest) they offer 4 1/2, and often, up to 5 1/2 hour rounds at no extra charge. If you start out by 7am you can get in 36 before dark, provided you don't take more than a half hour lunch break. Bring along your pail and shovel as you will find several mammoth bunkers that you can play in while waiting to hit your next shot without being in the way of other golfers. If you are going to play just nine holes, beg them not to send you off the back nine on the East course, because it requires a 5 minute taxi ride to get to the tenth tee. The finishing holes are quite plush and sometimes very challenging. At times it reminds me of Central Park with the many varieties of ducks and geese that often fill the fairways. Don't worry though, popsicle sticks can be found in the parking lot to remove the natural fertilizer that is stuck between your golf cleats. Here's a tip:
BYO H2O. Yes, if you like to have your balls washed with water instead of a dry brush, a pint of water with a dash of soap will make things easier. Just add a few ounces down the throat of the BW and pump away. The players behind you will appreciate your efforts.
Summary
On the more positive side, the fairways and greens have been much improved over the last couple of years. Unlike many other courses, Yahara's fairways run between a primary and then a secondary rough, which at times is deep and difficult to play from. The greens are all surrounded by a fringe (versus just a troublesome collar) The cost to play is very reasonable.
