This course has well-maintained greens that are small and elevated, and its fairways are narrow and tree lined. There are ponds that come into play on five holes. The terrain is hilly, and you may walk the course only with a caddie. The signature hole is #13, a 338-yard, par 4, which has water on the right side of the fairway and water in front of the green. Ed Ault redesigned the course in 1962, followed by Frank Duane, who remodeled four holes in 1964.

Here you have to play golf. Long and wrong just doesn't work. This course separates the bangers from the golfer's. Here is golf the way it is supposed to be played. Just because you can hit the long drive won't be much help here. Touch, technique and feel will prevail.

A little bit of heaven, Aug 04, 2005

Hampshire CC is a well-maintained, beautifully laid out golf course. narrow at points but basically wide where it counts (on the fairways). Greens were slow. The Fore-Caddy was very useful. The restaurant served good food and the service was courteous & professional. All in all, a good time spent.

Short but sweet, Jul 28, 2004

Like Stanwich in Greenwich, CT, Hampshire is a short course that demands good ball control. Small greens and tight fairways make this a course to tune your game. The back is strong, but could use another 40+ yards on the 10th. The Par 3s on the front are as tough as any (145, 230 and 212). The 8th is a little tricked out, and seems to be the only true weakness. It's suprisingly under-rated and has the potential to be a great gem in the Westchester area. Greens tend to be a bit on the slow side, (9) but the potential of the course is there waiting to come out. Firm the fairways, roll the greens (make them 11s) and this course will be spectacular.
