Knob Hill Golf Course

This course is a typical McCumber design in that it affords a good mixture of golf. The front nine is distinctive and caters to the target golfer, whereas the back nine allows you to hit the ball a little harder and worry less about trouble. Water comes into play on eleven holes on this course, and most of the fairways are tree lined. The greens, in general, are mid-sized. Most of them putt true, however, careful attention to a proper read is advised to avoid hellish surprises. The signature hole is #9, a 157-yard, par 3. From the tee it is uphill to an elevated green that is protected on the right by a deep sand bunker. This picturesque hole is deceptive because the deep bunker hides a good portion of the pin.

OUTSTANDING, Mar 08, 2009
reviewer: Alan from NJ
I am an avid golfer and have played multiple courses in the area and Knob Hill by far is the most enjoyable. The course is always in great condition, the Head Pro Lou and his staff are always friendly, and then the food in the Grille Room is simply outstanding. The value is at Knob Hill.. so much so I have joined this year for the first time as a member so I may keep enjoying all that Knob Hill has to offer!

THIS WAS MY FIRST VISIT TO THIS GOLF CLUB, AND I FOUND IT TO BE VERY ENJOYABLE. THE COURSE IS VERY MANICURED.THE LAYOUT IS NICE,AND CHALENGING ENOUGH TO KEEP YOU COMING BACK TO BEAT YOUR SCORE.PLUS THE ROUND WAS PLAYED IN 3 AND A HALF HOURS, I HIGHLY RECOMEND PLAYING HERE.

Nice Layout, Jul 22, 2006
reviewer: Nick Vescio from Manalapan NJ
Knob hill is one of those courses that can turn a great round into a spiraling crash. The front nine is all placement required holes except for number 4,par 4, where from the tips a 270 yard drive will leave you with a +200 yard aproach. The front nine is much more difficult than the back due to only one par 5 on the front. Both Par 5s on the back are birdie holes.Though other people claim the service is lacking at the club i have never witnessed these claims. When im up there,Mark, the head pro always greets me with a smile. And if the people complaining are not members then quit crying because the public service elsewhere in the manalapan area is substandard to Knob Hill.

Potential - Unfullfilled, Jun 01, 2004
reviewer: Hank Kostas from Freehold, NJ
This course, designed by MArk McCumber, had the potential to be a fine course. Though short, the narrow fairways surrounded by trouble, could have been a true test of golf. Unfortunately, too much is just not right. The greens can only be described as flat and boring. The tee boxes are not maintained. The traps lack sand. Finally, service at this club is close to nasty.

Nothing Special, Apr 26, 2004
reviewer: BobL from NJ
That about sums it up. The course is adequate but nothing special. The service is just plain bad. How does a golf pro like this get to keep his job?

Not worth the price even if the price was half, Apr 23, 2004
reviewer: Jack Handicap from Princeton, NJ
The previous reviewer said well maintained. He must have played a different course. The tee boxes, though small, lack grass. The water containers have green mold all over their spouts. The sand traps have no sand. Enough said. Oh yeah, the staff is really rude. Pity the poor suckers who join this ready to go private club.
