Very fast play with reasonable conditions, Jul 23, 2005

Manteno is a tremendous value. For less than $20 prime time, you can generally play 18 holes without having to wait. The course is in reasonable condition...the greens run smooth and true. The front nine is mostly open and flat, but the wind is almost always a factor. The back nine is tighter. There is OB on several holes...mostly to the left on the front nine and then to the right on the back nine. It runs 6,435 yards from the Blues. The greens are small. The course rating of 70.1 seem about right to me. Overall, a very enjoyable place to play with a unique combination of low cost and fast play!

Not sure what the last reviewer was thinking. Nothing he said was true. Front nine is very flat and uneventfull. Back nine is at least somewhat interesting with full grown trees. 2 stars maybe. Lately has some management issues.

This is the best course that I have ever played. It has lucious fairways and big bending doglegs. The thick rough gets you in trouble if you do not hit the fairway. It has a lot of rolling hills and elevation changes. This is a very challenging golf course.

Indian Springs Golf Club
"Indian Springs - Hidden Jewel"
This course is in a rural setting, with many farms around. Getting to it is a challenge, but once there, some pleasurable hours will be had. The course was well maintained, with good fairways and well manicured greens. There is almost an "upper level" and "lower level" for play and the elevation changes pretty dramatically for middle Illinois. There are plenty of water hazards, woods and places to make shots, so the course may be tough for new players. For shotmakers, it is a great skill test. The signature hole offers a scenic tee, overlooking two water hazards, gazing out into a woods and just barely able to see the dogleg right hole. Anything too far out or left or right goes out of play, and bunkers guard the green on the approach. The clubhouse has the essentials for refreshments, the price is moderate and the staff are friendly. I would recommend this course to anyone for an enjoyable outing and challenge.

Rancho San Joaquin Golf Course
"This course helped my game!"
With it's many doglegs and elevation changes, this course will quickly teach the beginners how to setup their approaches, while giving the lower handicap players a reasonably challenging round. 5 of the first nine pins cannot be seen from the tees. If you spray your tee shots, you will surely be struggling to make par. The par threes are deceiving with two short downhills, and two 150-ish up hills. These have been my achilles heel. There are not to many water hazzards, but they are well/poorly place depending on your tendancies. They can easily swallow your ball if your not carefull. The traps are typically limited to wrapping the greens, but watch out for the 5th hole, with its deceiving horizontal sand at 230 yards out. The grounds are well kept with mid speed greens that exactly match the practice green. Prepare for an even mix of wide and narrow fairways, and many misleading doglegs, both slight and sharp. This course has made me a better golfer, and I can't say that about many. Enjoy!

"Unreal"
Blue Lakes C.C. is one of the best courses I have played, and I have been all over the country. Deep in the Snake River Canyon, there is not one shot that isnt breath taking. Rob Ellis, has done a great job with his staff, and golf course. If anyone gets the opportunity to play this magnificant course, do not pass it up. I would pay 2ce or 3 times as much to play this course again.
