Pine Valley Golf Course203 136th Ave N Marathon, WI 54448 Phone: (715)443-2848
This course has either water hazards or sand bunkers coming into play on almost all its holes. The greens are fast, and the fairways are very narrow. The signature hole is #17, a 113-yard, par 3, requiring a downhill tee shot to a green that is sixty feet below the tee box. Group and private lessons are offered. Contact the pro shop for available times.

| I've played most of the courses in the Wausau area and, as a poor college student golfer, I'll say this is the best golf you'll get for your buck. Equally as inexpensive as the other courses in the area, but you won't find your drives and approaches in the natural hazards created by the lack of attention that so many other low-budget courses get. They have different colored flags and different tee boxes not just for show but because they've actually got big enough greens and long enough holes that one can play the course differently accordingly. A nice, long, wide open back nine with a 575-ard par five and the par 3 "signature hole". Challenging par 4's throughout the 18 that will put your decision-making and club-chosing to the test. It's one of those courses that will make you play it a few times to achieve the score that you're truly capable of. My three complaints: it gets pretty sloppy during the wet parts of the year, the front is a par 35 -which I don't like-, and the student-rate membership fee is near $700, significantly higher than its competition (although that would only apply were you a student and wanted a membership). A solid course overall, two stars over one any day of the week, any time of the year. |
