This course has pine trees lining its fairways. However, the fairways are fairly wide open with no blind shots or hidden hazards. The terrain is hilly, so there are many elevated tees that look down on the well-maintained fairways. There are water hazards that come into play on some holes.

This course is difficult to get to. It was in decent shape and does have dramatic contrasts in height. Amenities are very old and rustic. Was very upset because a young guy working the fairways drove onto the course when we were on the tee getting ready to hit. We assumed we couldn't reach him with our drives since he looked back at us and continued to work near a sand trap. We hit and landed 20 yards past him. When we drove down to our balls he started to yell at us and I expected a fight (that's how bad it was). We won't be back.

If you are heading out of Charlotte on 74 and have 4 hours to burn this is worth a stop. The course is in average shape (greens were slow but had nice grass and the fairways had good turf). A little rough around the edges-- the traps lacked decent sand and the tees were uneven and lumpy in places. Overall it is a great layout and has some amazingly hilly terrain. Lots of sidehill lies and odd swails. I would play it again-- especially for the price.

"HARD TO GET ON - GREAT TO PLAY"
Course is a traditional style designed by Gene Hamm and renovated by John LaFoy in 1999. This is the only private course in Chapel Hill. Walking is encouraged and it is a great way to experience the course. Signature hole IS NOT # 14. It's # 10 which can require carry over water twice. Pin on this hole makes 3 to 4 clubs difference on second shot. It's a beauty! Only one hole without bunkers - the par 3 9th is about 175 uphill from middle tees. Out of bounds on many of the holes as the fairways rise and fall through a very established traditional and exclusive neighborhood. Greens are all large (with at least 6 different zones on each one for pin placement)and have many contours. Three putts are common - especially in spring and fall when the bent grass surface is kept very fast. Bring your thinking cap, but also bring your game if your fun comes from scoring well. It's not an easy course, but it's not Jack Nicklaus difficult either.

Oakdale Country Club
"Wow........"
I have a membership at Oakdale and let me tell you, it's worth it. The courses rolling hills and steep inclines make it a tough challenge. The bunkers and the water hazards are also huge barriers to overcome on this course. You can't beat the price either. My membership paid for itself in a matter of weeks and after that I was practically playing for free. I strongly advise anyone that wants an enjoyable round of golf to check out Oakdale Country Club.
