Best kept secret for a 9 hole course in Central Minnesota, Apr 19, 2004

Nestled nicely between some prestigious 18 hole courses lies this beatiful 9 hole course that has a small town touch. Located south of Big and Little Birch Lake and in the heart of Melrose Minnestoa lies this spread of grass, water and trees I called home for many years. The course grows with character every year and has a supporting cast of members that strive to make it better each and every year. In my years of golf, I have played the best and worst tracks around, but find my comfort playing a course I grew up on and currenlty enjoy every year. Small town touch goes a long way when it comes to keeping things green and growing. Keep up the good work, it shows in both quality and beauty of the course. I would recommend this course to anyone, its a friendly course no matter what the skill level playing it.

"Best Course in WNY"
Not an overly long course, it rewards accuracy off the tee and penalizes errant strokes. The greens are fast and true, and generally break less than one would imagine. The front nine is deceptive, punishing anyone who strays off the tree-lined fairways. The back nine can be attacked, but the sightlines off the tees can intimidate the first time player. Use long irons from the tee to keep the ball in play(only if they are are a strength in your game), and you will be surprised with the result. Putting is the primary key to scoring on this picturesque layout.

Member : I found this golf course very changing and beautiful. Even though the course is somewhat short, it is heavily guarded with trees and it has a fair amount of sand around the greens and 3 fairway bunkers, the 1st is on #3 and the other 2 on #17 . The greens are very will maintained with a good quick pace to them. It would be wise to keep it in the short grass because the ruff can get pretty hairy. The best thing about this course is that the average cost to play is $20 to $40 dollars with cart. The down side is that it is located in the sticks (Corry Pa.), about 50 to 60 minutes south east of Erie Pa. They recently started taking take t-times about 2 years ago, so you can call ahead and schedule your time (up to 3 days ahead). If you like a changing and scenic golf course you should take the short trip to North Hills and give the course a try. Happy golfing R.A.W.

Chief at Sky Lodge Golf Course, The
"Bring it on!"
The Chief is perhaps the most challenging course I have played in northern Michigan. While it is a toughy, especially from the tips, it brings out a carnal instinct in me to play it again because I know that with my new knowledge I can improve my score. The course was in great shape with its bent tees, greens and fairways nicely manicured. The pro indicated that they just lowered the length of the rough, which made a great improvement. Service was also great in the shop. Leave your driver at home and have some fun.
