This course was built on a flat terrain, but the narrow, tree-lined fairways make this a challenging test of golf. The greens are average-sized and there are some that are elevated. Water hazards come into play on fourteen holes, including the signature hole, #14, a 160-yard, par 3, requiring a tee shot over water.

Maintenance not great, but narrow, challenging fairways, Jul 12, 2004

Costa is very affordable. Due to its low cost, the course isn't maintained with the care it needs. Some bunkers are just dirt as if they forgot to put sand inside. Some of the greens are quite bumpy from long blade grass sprouting up. The course is challenging for a slicer like myself. Be careful on tees next to the roads, any slightly errant drive will easily smack a car or two. Very good water hazards, esp. the 13th.

Absolutely the best public golf course within 100 miles of St. Louis. Seems like your playing well (Haven't lost a ball, no penalty stokes) then you add em up and you're half a dozen worse than usual. Great views, no waits.

"Worth the trip"
This course is easily the best course I have played. It's on a par with Blackwolf Run and the other Kohler courses at a fraction of the price. This course has a spectacular setting. It winds up and around Iron Mountain, and is a marvel of course design. Despite the elevation changes, only one hole plays uphill. The holes are cut out of the mountain side and winding cart paths take you to the next level, and hole, until you reach numbers 9 and 17, both of which play straight downhill (as does 18, a 600 yard par five with 3 terraced fairways). The grooming is immaculate and each hole is separated from the others by woods or water. Even on a busy day it feels like you're the only golfers on the course. The staff is friendly and efficient and the course is nicely rangered. As you play the course, you will marvel both at the quality of the experience and the incredible engineering required during construction. Rates have been in the $50-60 range for the past several years and its the best golf bargain you can find. This is a course you could play every day and it would remain interesting. The fairways and greens compare with any PGA site. This is one not to miss.

This course is beautiful. Great challange for new or old. It was my first time playing the game and the course layout helped get me addicted to the game.

This is a great layout with some long par 3's. The fairways are wide but trees line many holes and you must be in position in the fairway to get a shot at the small greens. Speed of the greens is medium-fast. Greens and Tee boxes were in good shape but the bermuda fairways are dormant and not overseeded for the winter. Play is slower on Sunday's but everyone was friendly and helpful.
