| Located in West Chester, this courses fluff on number one followed by a doable if slightly uphill par 5 yields way to a couple of par fours that you might walk away from happy with bogey. The remaining five holes on the front nine may restore your confidence just long enough to face a 460 yard par four that seems to play 500 yards. As you negotiate the remainder of the course, moments of anxiety are hidden between seconds of grandeur. The greens are typically consistent, if slightly slower than most country club settings. Bunkers are few and shallow. Water only comes into play on six holes. Tree-lined fairways still afford the 12-18 handicap golfer a little room to slice and hook-but not wildly. A score to keep you believing there is a degree of hope for your game is possible if you survive 3, 4 and 11.
The course is not one of the best sculpted courses in the area, but on a national scale, is in better shape than a lot of public courses you can find throughout the midwest. I've played courses in Missouri, Kentucky and Oklahoma, along with dried up patches in Florida and Texas that make it seem well pressed. Current staff members are pleasant and accomodating. The pro shop always has some deals and there are some decent food items in a limited restaurant. The nice thing is that you can almost always get out in the morning and early afternoon. |
