Most of this narrow course's holes are tree lined and has a double cut of rough lining its fairways. The greens vary in size, are undulating and fast. This course was built on hilly terrain and offers many scenic views from the elevated tee boxes. The signature hole is #18, a 575-yard, par 5, with four fairway sand bunkers and requiring an approach shot over a pond to an undulating green.

I would've given it better rating, but had a bad resent incident. I was given a hard time by Gary, new guy in pro shop, for walking on as a single without a tee time. It wasn't that busy. For 10 minutes no one was the tee box. Once I was on the course, I joined a twosome and played quickly. I played there hundreds of time in the past without any problem until this guy showed up. Looks like service is getting worst since they replace Scott V. and Scott F. If you are a single, you are not welcome to walk-on here. Save your hard earned money or pick any course that will welcome your patronage.

Great,friendly staff. Always accomodating. Fun course with tests for the novice and the accomplshed golfer. Reasonably priced for the quality of the course. If you can play, you can score.

This is an extremely well kept course. The course requires a wide variety of shots. If you are not on top of your game from the blue tees you will be in for a long day. The greens are very fast and hard to read. When you move up to the white or gold tees the course becomes very playable for the higher handicap player.

"Delightful Donald Ross Challange"
This private course was designed by Donald Ross to be a resort course in the early twentieth century. It was purchased after World War II by locals and formed into a club known as San Jose Golf and Country Club and has been sucessfully maintained as the private club since. It is the home course to many prominent Jacksonville residents. One must be a member or guest to play. It is a par 72. The greens are all adjacent to the tees, so that it can be walked easily. There are water hazards sprinkled throughout the course, which make it a dangerous layout for errant shots. The moderately fast greens are well maintained Burmuda and are sometimes puzzling with rolling configuration. A mature course--kept in excellent shape year-round.
