This is the oldest golf course west of the Mississippi that has remained in continuous operation. This is the host course for the California State Amateur and the Pebble Beach Invitational. The course is part of a resort complex with excellent facilities. The semi-hilly terrain, with it's tree-lined fairways and small, moderately undulating greens, provide for an excellent round of golf. Water does not come into play, but there are sixty-eight bunkers placed throughout the course. Two of the par 3's have the reputation of being the most difficult holes to play on the course. The signature hole is #18, a short par 4, with a strategically-placed green that slopes from front to back.

enjoy old del monte golf course, Sep 22, 2009 |

| a gem of a course in beautiful monterey, cal. over the past several years that i've been going there, the caretakers of the course have consistently been polishing this unique jewel, helping it achieve a delightful brilliance among the many courses in northern cal that i've been fortunate to play, e.g. the links @ spanish bay, poppy hills and ridge, pacific grove municipal, the bridges, wente, chardonnay, eagle vines, richmod cc, sequoyah cc, san geronimo, the presidio, half moon bay, tilden, tony lema. you will not be disappointed were you to play del monte, despite its yardage which is more than offset by the near perfectly manicured, deviously breaking greens. what makes the golfing even more enjoyable are the welcoming staff, the food and beverages @ the grill with its pleasing in and outdoor seating, and a wonderful practice putting green right in front of the grill. so, you can sip and eat and putt @ the same time. it's a fun place and makes for a great day's golfing experience. i highly recommend old del monte golf course. |

Del Monte -- Fun and touch -- old school, Feb 05, 2004 |

| Great course, classic layout, old style, just a wonderful golf experience. I've played Old Del Monte many times. It is a slightly shorter and yet just as fun older brother to several of the other Monterey/Carmel area courses. Oldest golf course west of the Mississippi River, it is close to the Monterey airport, close to hotels, and provides a wonderful, old-feel idea of what it was like to play on courses before big land movers shapped and sculpted the ground. It is fun to play, fun to hang around at the pro-shop/coffee shop. Just a really neat golfing experience. |
