The is a military course is a good place to practice the short game with four lakes and plenty of trees. This course boasts of having some of the best greens in the area. Water hazards come into play on four holes. The course concludes with a 540-yard, par 5, which features out-of-bounds stakes on both sides of the fairway.

Great beginner course. By far one of my favorites because it can be quite challenging, especially with the ocean breezes and even the length of the course makes for a good golf workout. Plus, it is inexpensive and not too busy that you can't enjoy your game.

Delaware Park Course
"Delaware 2003 review"
Delaware Park is a great place to learn to play golf because it offers open fairways, well maintained greens, no sand or water. There is hardly ever a bag line. There are 18 holes on relatively flat land. The trees present the only problems as many are in the fairways. The course conditions have shown vast improvement recently , especially in 2003 when new tee boxes were planted and benches were placed at each hole. It compares favorably, I think to the 2 other city courses, Cazenovia and South Park. Those courses offer just 9 holes each. The park setting is beautiful. If you want to practice without being intimidated, this is the place.

"Best Kept Secret In Central VA"
Of all the courses I have played through out VA I would have to say this is one of the best kept secrets in Virginia. The greens are very fast but yet they hold very well. The vista's of the mountains on the back nine are breath taking. The #17 hole could one day be as comparable to one of the holes at Augusta or the TPC Sawgrass. Its and old club with alot of history set up in a beautiful historic town! If you can get your self and invitation to play it I would highly recommend it. Keep your head down and let it rip. Bill P.

New England golf courses just dont get much better than this old classic layout. Being in the business of golf, i have opportunity to play many courses around the country - this one is my favorite. Also, if you are looking for a better conditioned golf course, good luck! If you can get on, ENJOY.

Sandpiper Golf & Country Club
"A nice short course"
I have played this golf course for the last 10 years, 2 to 5 times each year at various time, usually in the winter. Sandpiper is a short course with plenty of par 3's and short par 4's. The layout makes for a slow round on the front side on a busy day. It usually opens up on the back, which is the better 9 holes. Greens are in good condition year round. Course gets more play in the winter when the ajoining retirement community is fully occupied. Long hitters have no advantage as any long drive (250 or more) puts you too close to the greens. Use irons and 4 woods off most of the tees. Any drive 200 yards down the middle is great for this course. Some holes feel too close to the homes. Can be a real challenge when windy.
