| For a public course, it is well laid out and reasonably well-maintained. But it is often crowded, even on weekdays, and the pace can be deadening.
Why don't they post on their WEBSITE when outings are being held? They have tons of them and I guess it pays to call ahead to see if they're open to the public. |

Decent Public Course, Aug 09, 2008

| Stony Ford golf course is a typical public course. It does have some nice views from the clubhouse. It is well maintained and has a few challenging holes. The low handicapper will not be overly challenged even from the back tees, but the average golfer will be more than adequately challenged. If you are a 10+ handicap you will enjoy the course. |

Bad Rap, Aug 31, 2007

| For a county course with its high volume of play, this course gets a bad rap for slow play and poor management. It has been my experience the responsibility for slow play rests mainly with the players. Its not that they play slowly. Many simply have little or no idea how to move around the course efficiently. The "provisional ball" rule is rarely used. As a result, more time is spent looking for balls than playing golf by the rules.
Stony Ford offers some of the most scenic views and challenges in the area. Hole 15,the signature hole, is just one example.
A real challenge would be to find another 18 hole course in the area that is better maintained, managed, and is as challenging and affordable as Stony Ford.
