Winding Hills Golf Club

Route 17 K
Montgomery, NY 12549
Phone: (914)457-3187

This executive course was built on rolling terrain so there will be some uneven lies. The fairways are narrow and heavily tree lined. There are some wetlands in the layout that come into play five different holes. There's also twenty-five different sand bunkers that are scattered throughout the design. The greens are medium-sized, extremely sloped and fairly slow. The signature hole is #13, a 256-yard, par 4, which features a historic farmhouse that was built in the 1700's. The fairway has a dogleg left configuration and the green is protected by two bunkers on the left side, one bunker on the right side and a stream in front of the green.

It's an executive Augusta!, Mar 22, 2011
reviewer: Bob Smith from Beacon, NY
This IS the most awesome little course you will find east of the Mississippi! (and I'm not an owner or a relative of the owner) It's like an executive Augusta! The greens are so fast and undulating, that unless you are close on your first shot, a par will be difficult. On some holes, if you are above the hole and miss the putt, you will end up off the green! Not all holes are that infuriating; there are enough relatively easy pars, and birdiable holes, to make up for the holes of death. The course is beautifully landscaped with various flower beds and other plants. Last fall, they ran a special where greens fees, that included a cart, were $20! Right now, it's $25 for greens fees that includes a cart, but only until the end of March. The only drawback is that many golfers don't repair their ball marks, so the greens have a lot of marks to contend with. (but be a good sport like me, and repair your own and a few others on each green, and it will get back to where it should be)

One of the best par-3's, Aug 01, 2010
reviewer: jersey Bob from Oakland, NJ
This is an extremely well maintanined and challenging par 3 course. There are a few short par 4's thrown in. The restaurant is also very good with gourmet quality food. The greens are extremely sloped and will drive you crazy!

The grounds are well maintained and prices are fair. Mostly par 3's and a couple par 4s.

very nice executive course. Good test of irons and accuracy. Rocks MUST be removed from bunkers however.

Great Challenge, May 03, 2004
reviewer: Jeff Casaly from Inwood, WV
This 18 hole golf course, with just 4(?) par 4 holes is an excellent course to tune up your iron and short game. Located north of Montgomery, it is very scenic and enjoyable to play. I've played it a number of times, and contrary to the general description listed for this course, the greens are definitely NOT fairly slow! They are in fact some of the fastest I've ever played, and more than once have putted the ball off the green. This is coming from a single digit handi-capper. Par is a great challenge with these greens.
