This fairly tight course has five water hazards that come into play on some holes. The greens are big and the fairways are narrow. Joel Goldstrand designed the back nine, which opened in 1988.

RUDE STAFF AND VERY UNPLEASANT GOLF EXPERIENCE , Apr 08, 2010

Went with a group of 4 (with a cart), 1 a women. Golfed the 1st 9 in about 1.5 hrs and was pushed off the back 9 by course members. Club manager made us wait 1.5 hrs, only let us do front 9 again. Golf the front 9 the 2 nd time (in the same amount of time) and had balls hit over us by the same club members. VERY, VERY RUDE STAFF AND VERY UNPLEASANT GOLF EXPERIENCE THAT COST $200.00.

Highly enjoyable course requiring accuracy. Especially on the back nine where a slice/fade or hook/draw will necessitate the need for waders and extra golf balls. At the same time, the ability to cause a fade or draw will make longer drives possible on several of the fairways that make long gradual left or right turns. Be very careful on #17. It's an average length par 3 but, if you miss right, it's thirty feet down a steep slope across the cart path and into the river. A crystal clear river runs through the front nine where water comes into play often. One particularly narrow fairway is entirely bounded on the left by this river. My wife and I look for challenging courses and consider this to be one of the better courses in Central MN

Monticello CC is an open, forgiving course with excellent greens. At $32.00 a round it is well worth the money.

A very easy course, it probably makes the membership feel good about their game. I shot a very mundane 2 under and did not strike the ball that well. There is not much that can be done with this very boring layout, however they could focus on the irregular and unkempt greens. The one star would be for the adequate service at the clubhouse.

This wonderful Tom Fazio design offers a truly great experience. It can only be played with a member. Don't worry about a starting time or slow play, the members are rare. I've been told that if you can find a weed in any fairway, they will give you a membership! ($175,000/player plus dues) Every hole has it's own personality and most (10) involve water. A desert design that requires accuracy off the tee, and a back nine into an old quarry up in the mountains, the course is very challenging, but has incredible views of Indio (All putts break that way.) Chances are that you won't get the opportunity to play this track, but if you do, don't miss it!
