This very wide and flat course has tree-lined fairways on the back nine. However, the front nine has many water hazards, plus there are sand bunkers and grass bunkers placed strategically throughout the course. Guests must be accompanied by a member in order to play this course. This club was originally founded in 1894 and has been listed by the USGA as one of the first 100 clubs established in the U.S. It was also recognized by "GOLF Magazine" in their 1995 list of the "First 100 Clubs in America." Donald Ross redesigned the original nine holes when he added the back nine in 1927. Geoffrey Cornish and William G. Robinson later redesigned nine holes in 1964.

| Newly redisigned front nine has a tremendous amount of water, and positioned well in play. Ate up a couple of my new pro v's. The course is short by modern standards however plays longer than the scorecard. Tremendous variety of fair golf holes as I hit every club in my bag. What impressed me the most was the staff and how they treated me as though I was an old friend, although this was the first time I had the pleasure of being a guest of a college friend. Overall I had a great experience despite shooting 6 strokes higher than my handicap. Lost 3 ways. |

| As a youngster growing up in Narragansett, I spent several summers lugging golf bags around Point Judith Country Club. The course description indicates that there are lots of water hazards on the front nine, but I beg to differ. Unless you count drainage ditches between fairways, there are NO water hazards on the front side, and two that come into play on three holes on the back nine. Yes the fairways are wide; they got that much right. It's also a long course from the back tees. The 18th hole is a monster; nearly 600 yards in length with a row of traps at about 160 yards from the green that runs across the entire fairway. I saw many matches won and lost on this classic finishing hole. I also saw the likes of Bob Hope, Bobby Orr, Rick Pitino and Dave Givitt knock it around PJCC. It's a wonderful old course, but the only way you'll get a tee time at PJCC is if you're invited to play with one of the members or if you spend some time in the caddy yard; then you get to play on Monday morning for free! |
