This military course does have a public membership. The fairways are average width and never watered, unless it rains. The greens are small and difficult to read. Subtle obstacles, such as trees and sand bunkers, can alter your shots at any given time. The signature hole is #5, a 549-yard, par 5, requiring shots up a dogleg right fairway that narrows as you near the small, sloping green. Tee times are only reserved for weekends and holidays. There are additional sets of tees that can be used when playing an eighteen hole round.

Nice break, May 30, 2004

9 holes but 18 tee boxes. This is not an easy course for those who are unfamiliar with the greens. It is fairly flat, but there are plenty of trees to add some character to this unknown course. I play in a weekly league here and have no complaints.

Marshallia Ranch Golf Course
"Marshallia Rocks"
This is one tough but, neat course. Carved out of the hills surrounding Vandenberg AFB, the layout is challenging and scenic. Play in the fall and winter for the best weather, because spring and summer can be very cool and windy. Each hole rewards a decent shot, but plucks out your heart if your shot runs errant. Ice plant gives a new meaning to the word, rough. Here's a putting tip, 90% of the putts break toward the high hills to the south, though you will swear it can't be. The course is usually in terrific condition and the Clubhouse very accomodating. Green fees, equipment and food are more than reasonable when compared to nearby courses. This is one gem all golfers must experience.

Beaver Brook Golf & Country Club
"The brook"
Beaver Brook is a nice course that was developed in the 50's. Because of that, it is not the longest course, and it is more technical than some of the more modern, open designs. The fairways are narrow and hilly with a lot of blind approach shots, and the greens are small. From the Blue it is about 6000 yards, but plays longer because of some of the second shot angles and elevated greens. If you keep it in the fairway, you can score. If you don't, it will be a long round.
