Weequahic Park Golf Course
Martin Luther King BlvdNewark, NJ 07114
Phone: (973)923-1838
This tree-lined course was built on rolling terrain and has elevated greens. The design includes sand bunkers coming into play on all the holes except one. The signature hole is #13, a 408-yard, par 4, requiring a tee shot up a dogleg left fairway, then an approach shot over water to the green. Hal Purdy designed the back nine, which opened in 1969. Tee times are only reserved for weekends and holidays and must be made in person.

| When people thing of playing golf in Newark, NJ they probably picture the worst. I'm not a fan of Newark but a fan of this course. Yes the tee boxes could be better but all in all a very nice place to play. Course always seems to be in good conditions and most players patience with the beginner. |

| i'm a 14-handicap, so i enjoy a challenging yet rewarding course. but you won't find that here. i tried this course out for the first and last time. hate to say it, but it's ghetto. i wish i had another word for it. the tee-boxes are in terrible condition. so bad that even the course employees don't want you to place your bag on the grass. i guess they don't want them getting any worse than they already are. also, you'll be getting ready to tee-off and then you'll hear thumping hip-hop right around the corner to help you along. the staff are not friendly at all. in fact i can't seem to understand what they're talking about for the most part. they seem to just mumble their way through the day. in conclusion, do not play here, unless they for some reason decide to offer a round for $10. otherwise, it's a complete rip-off and like i said before, "ghetto". |

A real bargain, Oct 01, 2007 |

| It does a great disservice to the course and players to write of such low expectations of the course and then say good things about the experience. This compact course challenges because it rewards accuracy and penalizes the uncontrolled player. Many holes easily lands the uncontrolled player in golf’s cemetery (literally), rolling in the park, out of bounds on any one of three consecutive holes, hiding in patches of wooded areas or taking a swim in the naturally forming pond. Have a good round and respect our course. Best of all, it's a friendly place where one can walk on with little wait. |

Amazing to find golf like this in Newark!, Apr 15, 2004 |

| I was amazed to find this compact course tucked away in a corner of grimy Newark NJ. The fairways were nicely trimmed, with not unruly rough on the sides, and the greens were as good as some private courses I've played. Certainly not the "green concrete" greens you're used to seeing on a public course. Sure, the tee boxes could be better marked (I think the markers were all stolen or something), and the traps could use more attention to refilling with real puffy sand (as opposed to the tamped down white rocky stuff I found there, way too many times for one round of golf), but hey - this is Newark, after all. There's a big forbidding fence around the perimeter, and the atmosphere was pleasant, safe, and quite civilized. Highly recommend for a quick afternoon getaway - you'll be pleasantly surprised at the quality of play to be had here. |
