• Edgewood Country Club
  "Traditional Donald Ross layout"
  Edgewood is a graceful example of a Donald Ross design, with elevated, contoured and fast greens. The traditional, tree lined layout is picturesqe and plays longer than its listed length. Par 4s #2 and #18 are each 420 yard gems. Three of the Par 5s are reachable with two long shots. 5-8 on the front is where the golf course really tests you. The course is always in good condition, and despite its hills, is a good walking course with a solid caddy program.

• Fox Creek Golf Club
  "A Best Buy in StLouis Metropolitan Area"
  I will start by saying that while I am only 24 years old, I have been an avid golfer since age 7. I haven't played a huge number of courses in my lifetime, but I know a good course when I play one, and I know a bad course as well. I personally feel that this course plays better than the more well known Sunset Hills CC also in Edwardsville, while not requiring membership/friendship to play. I've played the Bay Point Lagoon Legend in Panama City (known to be one of the 5 toughest courses in the US), and I truly don't think it has much on Fox Creek difficulty wise. The trees alone on Fox Creek truly play havok with any shots that aren't riding the middle of the fairways. Several greens have large trees that block approach shots that aren't setup off the tee correctly. A smart player will leave his driver in the bad on most tees (unless you are confident in your big stick), however, due to the course's length, approach shots end up being taken with mid-to-long irons more than one would like. Couple this with water or OB on nearly every hole and multi-tiered undulating greens and you are looking at one tough course. The best part about this course is the low price. You can play for dirt cheap in my opinion for as fine a course as this one. The only knock in my book is that the course does not wear well through the year, either due to climate or an average greens-crew. So if you want to play a great course for a bottom dollar price, come early in the year (April-May). I promise you won't be disappointed.

  "Little Jewel"
  My rating is based against other courses of this size and type. The course was immaculate and the greens quick and true. The entire grounds were gorgeous, well watered with no brown spots at all. A real pleasure to play.

• Turquoise Valley Golf Course & RV Park
  "Hidden Gem"
  One of the best golf values I have seen. #1 hole is the worst hole on the course, with a ridiculous left to right sloping green that is impossible to hold. Make bogey here and you have a chance for a good round. After that, the architect did a good job of squeezing 8 holes into the available terrain. The real ambience of this course starts with #11, a long carry over a wash to a par 3. #10 is a drivable par 4 that could be improved a bit by narrowing the fairway to make it a bit more risky to go for the green. The rest of the back 9 is very well done, except for # 18, which is a pretty lame par 4. And then there is THE RATTLER, a very good par 6. Long hitters can get there in 3, setting up an eagle putt. But the 3rd is mostly carry over water. Overall one of the best courses I have played, especially for the money.
