This links-style course is located near the ocean. The greens are large, quick and undulating. The fairways are somewhat narrow and difficult to read. In addition, water hazards come into play on a number of holes. Geoffrey Cornish and William G. Robinson designed the back nine, which opened in 1974.

Quidnessett is one of the most beautiful courses in the state. The course is extremely difficult with ocean breezes comming into play. The greens are fast but hold well. You need to be able to hit the long ball if you want to shoot par.

Dayton Valley Country Club
"A Real Golf Course, Open All Year."
DVGC is a real test of golf. All the holes are fair and require you to hit shots. 7-9 and 16-18 are some of the toughest closing holes around this area. There are plenty of birdie opportunities if you are on your game, there are also plenty of water hazards if you are off your game. It has been known to blow a little in the afternoon, so play as early in the day as possible. Dayton Valley is a fantastic course with a terrific staff.

Forest Park Country Club
"You learn to love it"
This is an okay golf course, I wouldnt rate it extremly high though. If you're a beginnger golfer, this course probally isnt the best for you. Just about every hole has a hill, quite substancial hills at that. For the area, I wouldnt reccomend this unless your looking for a challenge. Try Ponthoosac (Pittsfield MA) Stamford (Stamford VT) or even Waubeeka (Williamstown MA) for the area.

Hawthorns Golf & Country Club

I should disclose upfront that I am a member of The Hawthorns. It is a fantastic layout, and one of Arthur Hills best designs. It has hosted USGA open qualifications, and national tournaments such as The Women's Western Golf Association Amatuer Championship. In 2005, it will host the PGA's Northern Regional Club Professional Championship. It is a prarie style golf course which makes it unique in Indiana, and is an excellent strategic golf course that you have to think your way around. At 10 years of age, the course is maturing nicely; we also just had Arthur Hills in to do a few tweaks to the course, including a few new tee complexes, sand bunkers, and adding or extending a few of our lakes. It is a fun course to play, just make sure you play the right set of tees for your skill level.
