Too short. Obsolete for todays equipment, Jun 17, 2006

| Back in the 1960's to 1970's this course was a premiere course in Chicago at 6700 yards. But now with space age technology, Butterfield is not daunting or even a good test of golf anymore.
It remains ok for the 20 handicaps and higher. But your better golfers with handicaps of 10 or less will not be challenged and probably be laying up on a lot of the par fours, as a Driver is no longer a smart play.
Three stars are for its immaculate condition. Add 3 to 4 hundred yards in length and it could be a 5 star again like it was in the old days. |

Dream Course, Sep 14, 2005

| Playing BCC is a dream. If you can find a member to take you, do so and thank him by letting him chose the steakhouse of his choice for dinner unless he invites you in for what will be a great meal. There is not a bad hole in the 27 holes you have to play, and do play all 27. The fairways are tight, but the ball does not run much so it plays fair. the greens are green glass but hold your shots. There are dog legs, plenty of hills, a few blind shots and better players will find a number of risk opportunities. Only 4 par fives in the 27, so the course will play to par 70 or 71. If you break 80, you are a player. Plan on playing every shot in your bag, and a few you do not! You will love the course! |
