Bay Hill Club & Lodge, The - Championship Course

This resort, which was chosen by "GOLF Magazine" to its 1996 list of "Silver Medal Resorts," features an outstanding eighteen hole course, plus a great nine hole regulation course. Both courses are private, and you must be a guest of a member or staying at the resort's lodge to play these courses. These courses sweep across 270 acres of land situated alongside the shores of the Butler Chain of Lakes. The eighteen hole Championship Course has plenty of mounds and sand bunkers around its greens, essentially requiring long iron shots that need to come in high in order to hold the greens. The firm greens are medium to large in size. Water hazards (seven ponds) come into play on nine holes. "Golf Digest" rated this course as the 6th "Best in State" for the years 1995-98. The same publication also named 89th under the category of "America's 100 Greatest Golf Courses" for 1996, and 97th for 1997-98. In the category of "Top 75 Upscale Courses," it was ranked 25th in 1996. "GOLF Magazine" chose it 21st in the category of "Top 100 Courses You Can Play in the U.S." for 1998, and 91st under the category of "America's 100 Greatest Golf Courses for 1998. "GOLFWEEK" made it 56th on its list of "America's 100 Best Modern Courses" for 1997, 82nd for 1998 and 94th for 1999. The Charger Course was built on flat terrain and features water hazards (ponds) coming into play on four holes. There are five dogleg fairways on the Charger Course. These phenomenal courses are the annual host for the PGA Tour's Bay Hill Invitational. "GOLF Magazine" even selected it to their 1998 list of "Top 10 PGA Courses You Can Play." You must have a caddie if you choose to walk the courses. Arnold Palmer and Ed Seay redesigned the Championship Course in 1989 and the Charger Course in 1995. Arnold Palmer owns these courses and is the president. Due to the private nature of this club, guest fees were not available for publication.
