Take your running shoes with you!, Apr 04, 2008 |

| Enjoyed the course, was in reasonable condition... BUT, we left feeling very upset at how we had been treated by the course marshals. For those who have 5minutes here are the bizarre details.... I went in a group of three and were joined by another gentlemen on the 1st, to make up a 4-ball. We were asked to go ahead to the first tee before another group as they were waiting for somebody to join them, don't think this person ever turned up, they caused a small delay but we had a clear course in from of us. On the 9th we were asked to speed up by the marshal because "we had 2 clear holes in front of us", on the 12th we were then asked abruptly to "skip a hole" becuase "this was course rules" we explained that we were happy for the group behind to play through and that the only reason that there was 2 holes clear was because of the hold up at the first - the 'general manager', as he descibed himself, was not interested, we were told if we did not skip the hole we would be asked to leave the course, the gentlemen that joined us at the 1st left soon after, the only reason we continued was that we had a tight Scot with us - they don't give much away (I am allowed to say this because I am Welsh and they say worse about us! plus its true). We completed the course in 4hr 10mins, not unreasonable I think, we are far from being slow golfers. The group behind us finished 10-15 minutes behind us. We filled out the e-mail questionaire they sent to us that requested feedback, but it was like a tree falling in forest, we never received any acknowledgement. I have played for almost 20 years and have never experienced anything like this, I am still gritting my teeth, if I can persuade one person a to reconsider playing at this course after reading my review I will be able to sleep easy again.... course was fine, but not interested in being chased around it, and to be spoken to in that way, especially when I have paid good money to relax and enjoy myself. |

| Course is going in the wrong direction, facilities and the course are getting worse every week. Traps are in ill repair, practice facilities are worn and the staff act like they are bored. Course is not worth the price they are charging per round. |

Perilou Review 1, Aug 30, 2006 |

| This course was a great experience. Many hazards and a layout that actually made you think about and evaluate every shot. The greens were also challenging and provided medium speed to similar courses that I have played in Georgia, Louisiana, Kansas, Alabama and Texas. Shot making was essential to get the ball close to the flag. The one down side of the course is the height of the rough. It is entirely too deep (e.g. almost 3 inches in some areas to include areas around the green). PGA courses that I have played on do not make the rough as deep. The result is it takes too long to play a round (e.g. almost 5 hours) and there were many delays with the group in front of my group to include my group in looking for balls that are right off of the fairway. RECOMMEND that you cut the rough to half its current height to speed up play and thus make more $$$$ for your course. This course where mostly amateurs are playing, can still be fun and challenging if the rough grass was cut lower where you can at least see the ball. |

Practice Areas & Traps, Jun 21, 2006 |

| Very poorly maintained practice area and the sand traps have virtually little sand in it. Very muddy on several occasions in the sand traps. |

| After the course closed it had a lot of ground to make up when it started up again. The prices were the only downside to play. Very nice links stlye to it. Greens were fairly fast and course layout ws an A+. Overall, it was tough, but fun. |

| After year of playing Golf in Texas I was very happy with my lastest visit to Southwyck, Course Conditions were very good, the greens were excellent for this time of year and the rolled very smooth. The Staff was very helpful and food was good. Having play the other area clubs it is a worth while trip and I plan on going back again very soon. |

Sand Traps (Mud Traps), Fairways, Etc, Aug 22, 2005 |

| Southwyck has shown some improvement since being bought by Arnold Palmer Course Management but still has ways to go to regain rating. Sand traps are a mess. Large number of traps on course and they are poorly maintained. Almost always wet and muddy and practically unplayable. One trap on 5th hole had enough water in it for ducks to be swimming in it. This is not only caused by poor drainage but watering of greens. Unless something is done soon they will never improve. Also several fairways (2nd and 8th) are getting smaller due to dirt falling into lake. Overall management of the course seems to be geared to do nothing on these mattters! Also rounds get too slow. Some over 5 hours!!! Since cancellation of meals with round, there are better out there. |

| Southwyck is a nice Links style golf course. It challenges all levels of golfers with up to 5 tee boxes per hole. There is almost always a wind and water comes into play on 13 holes. It is a nice course for the money. They usually have specials including breakfast, green fee, cart and lunch on the weekends for $41. The greens are coming in nicely and have a good speed. The only downside is the tee boxes are not flat. Most of them are mounds and it makes it difficult to have a level stance. I recommend Southwyck for a challenging round of golf at an upscale faclilty for a fair price ($30 - $50). Their Pro shop is nicely equipped and at competive prices too. |
