This course received a mini-facelift in 1996 to help alleviate some of the drainage problems the course had experienced in the past. A pond that sat in front of the green on hole #11 was removed and several bunkers were added, and new tees boxes were built on holes #12 and #15. The green was expanded on #15, as well as the green on #16, making it one of the largest on the course at approximately 2,200 square feet. In addition, new cart paths have been installed. The fast greens are medium-sized. Hole #4, a short 370-yard, par 4, features a huge green and is one of the most famous holes. The course winds up and down Spyglass Hill, so expect many uneven lies. Hole #1, nicknamed "Treasure Island," has an island green surrounded by sand. Hole #14, "Long John Silver," features a double dogleg fairway. "Golf Digest" rated this course as the 2nd "Best Public Course" in the state for 1996, and "GOLF Magazine" rated it 5th best under the 1998 category of "Top 100 Courses You Can Play in the U.S." They also ranked it 54th among the "Top 100 Courses in the U.S." for 1995, 45th for 1997 and 49th for 1999. "GOLFWEEK" selected it 12th in the category of "America's 100 Best Modern Courses" for 1997, 10th for 1998 and 13th for 1999. The club is a sponsor of the AT&T National Pro Am. Golf lessons are available by contacting the Golf Academy at Pebble Beach at (831) 647-7500.
