This course has a very famous grandfather. Alister Mackenzie is the architect of the original nine holes, which is now the back nine of this regulation layout. Robert Muir Graves designed the new front nine, which was added in 1991. The design climaxes with difficult closing holes, including #16, a 398-yard, par 4, requiring an exact, downhill tee shot to a very narrow fairway between trees. The greens were very small on the original holes, but have been enlarged for practical reasons. The course is very hilly, and can be a nightmare for slicers because all of the trouble is on the right.
