I know Big John, Aug 03, 2010
reviewer: 9 iron from South Jersey
Course is empty for big john because he doesn't roll out of bed until 10:30 to play. Me, I like to get to the course early.

Good course and clubhouse, Jun 29, 2010
reviewer: Big John from Sayreville
I don't understand the negative reviews. The course is mostly uncrowded, the greens are fast and true, some nice holes. The clubhouse is a good place to have a beer after the round.

Nice Course, Sep 19, 2007
reviewer: 3putt from Mt. Holly, N.J.
Unlike a previous reviewer I had a pretty good experience playing on a wonderful, clear, sunny Tuesday morning. Teed off at 8:30 on the 10th, as directed by the starter, because, in their words, "the old lady foursomes just teed off on the front and they will drive you crazy". Course is in very good shape for mid-September, especially tee boxes, which are terrible at EXCELLENT courses this time of year. Housing development and pedestrian/bicycle traffic are problems, but it is what it is. I breezed through the first nine and then joined a pair for the 2nd nine where we began waiting at the tee. Rangers and groundskeepers were seen all day keeping the groups moving and the latter keeping the course maintained. In all the round was 4 1/4 hours, which for mid-Jersey is not too bad. I paid $36 to walk being a non-county resident, which is a bit pricey. I would return, as I consider this a good course, however, there are other comparable courses in the area (Mercer Oaks, Cranbury) which I might consider first.

some good but mostly bad, Aug 13, 2007
reviewer: Jason from Middlesex, NJ
Good: It’s a fun course with some challenge. The layout is actually fun to play and most of the holes are not just straight ahead one after the next. – that’s about it for the good. Bad: Middlesex county courses are way over priced. All two and one half of them. Somerset county courses are very nice and cheaper. The course is right in the middle of an apartment complex. Lined on three sides with apartments, they are impossible to avoid. This is a terrible idea and completely ruins the game. Residents walk the course all the time, taking their family (and dogs) out for a walk. People hang out in their yards and talk on the phone, which is fine, but not when the fairway is 20 yards away from them. People jump on the course for free golf constantly; more so during the week. Kids play on the cart paths. Young children can be heard crying and screaming from the tee boxes. “Dogs and cats living together; mass hysteria.” Play in Somerset or elsewhere, Spooky Brook, Neshanic Valley, etc…

I live on the course and for the price its ok. The greens suck. They are like putting on a shag carpet. The good part is its never crowded during the week and on the weekends you can get out quickly as a walk on. There are better courses around but on a saturday afternoon you have the course to yourself.

Not a good value by any stretch of the imagination, Jan 26, 2006
reviewer: Caymon from Texas
I am new to New Jersey, and live in an apartment complex on this course. As convinient as this course is, I doubt they will get any more of my money. The course is not well taken care of, and the price is rediculous. I live less than a 3 minute walk, and it cost me $42 to walk the course. There are definately better values within a 10 minute drive.

Not worth it, Jun 20, 2005
reviewer: middlesex county golfer from nj
I am a county resident and even with a price break I do not enjoy playing it. The course itself, fairways and greens are in pretty good condition (June 2005) and I like the layout of some of the holes. But as the description on this site indicates, out of bounds is on the left for 17 holes. Out of bounds is not marked just by some nice little red stake before an onslaught of trees or lake. O.B. is really indicated by the row after row of condos and townhomes that are so close to the course you feel like you are in someone's back yard most of the round. If you hit left, draw to a hook, be prepared to be sheepish from pegging a few buildings along the way. But here is why I doubt I will ever play there again: I work less than 10 minutes away from the course and decided to pop over for a twilight round. I got to the tee box for the first hole and was able to go out by myself. I was really pumped about working on my game with no one around (yes take a "couple" of mulligans). After about 4 or 5 holes of seeing no other players in sight, I found myself waiting for some guy to finish up on the green ahead. When I got to the green I noticed the man drifted off to another hole out of order. Then at the next tee box was some other guy who was extremely insistent I go ahead of him. At that point it became clear since there are no fences around the course just condos. These guys are just walking out to the course, way out from the club house, playing for free. Of course who is the idiot, them or me for just paying 25 bucks? If that is not bad enough, there were about a dozen or so kids I encountered walking around the course, using it as a short cut no doubt to the condos on the other side. I have enough trouble trying to get on the green from 180 yards out without having to worry about hitting a little girl on the cartpath riding a bicylce. Why a little girl is out on a golf course by herself at 7 PM is a whole other story but this is about the golf course not bad parenting. I can at least say you will never see me there again after work. I haven't played there on a weekend in about 2 years but I doubt the kids disappear on the weekend. Maybe they just wear helmets.
